Actually, for us it was more like " Gee hun, now that we are having a child we should buy our first home. Ok, good idea. Lets buy a house in a nice neighborhood that has low crime, good schools."lowing wrote:

For others their conversation may go :
" I'm pregnant, you might be the dad."
"I ain't paying you shit"
"I don't care, I'll go on welfare and my kid can go to any school he/she wants so I don't have to strive for anything"

Maybe it's different in Australia. Here, impoverished areas have impoverished schools. Impoverished schools have shitty resources, shitty facilities, shitty teachers and kids with shitty parents.
Would you, as a non-shitty parent, want to send your kid to that school?

If you place within a good school children who come from nothing but a wealthy background that school may do well, but the school slums that hinder a child's ability are never going to improve the life of those living within that area.
What I believe should happen, is the schools accept student based on that child's ability and not daddy's pay. This narrows the education gap between the economic parallels and consequently improves the lives of the children who are coming from poor backgrounds yet with the ability to do well.
I'd rather see the education gap minimised, your solution of keeping little lowing out of a mixed school does nothing but perpetuate the reason your keeping little lowing out of those schools. Your making the problem worse for his generation.

No I would not. But I would want the children from the impoverished areas that have the impoverished schools the chance to make it to a better school based on their ability to perform in the classroom.Reciprocity wrote:

I am not pushing for the opposite method of making rich kids go to poor schools. I want poor kids going to rich schools based on their intellect.

The fact is I do not live near the city because it is crime infested, and the schools reflect that and are no better. So I don't live there. If this makes me racist in your eyes so be it. Feel free to take the high road and stick your kids in a shitty drug and crime infested school system and nieghborhood to prove to the world how tolerant you are. Somehow, I do no believe you will. YOu will find a good school and a good nieghborhood to raise your family.TheAussieReaper wrote:

Well said! good point they should have schools accepts students based on that childs ability. But the problem with that is, here u have lets say a rich area or rich town and then a school is built there, and then u have a another town which is not as rich and they have a school there 2, so the school in the rich area does not accept the students who do not live in rich town, you have to be part of that town(town resident) in order to go to that school.TheAussieReaper wrote:

I don't know how you are making these comparisons, I don't think you've read or understood the points I have made.

Lowing have you ever seen the numbers for education money that goes to urban schools as opposed to suburban schools, even within the same school district? Even when student populations are considered, urban schools on average get far less money than suburban schools. That's one critical reason urban schools underperform. Often teachers and other personnel struggle in these schools due to budget restraints, especially when funding is tied to performance. One key reason parents often bus their kids to suburban schools is that those schools are better funded and have higher performance benchmarks.
No, wanting a good education for your kids is not inherently racist. That's saved for comments like this:

Thanks blade. And yeah the problem is the good schools don't look at a child's potential through testing, etc. They see the bad neighbourhood and poor family and think the kid won't amount to anything.blademaster wrote:

Well um yeah. Do I feel bad for the kids in poor areas? Absolutely I do. However, we are talking about public schools. MY tax dollars from MY income go to the town that I live in and are given to the schools that MY child goes to. I am therefore paying for not only someone elses rent becuse they are on welfare, but now their childs education. I believe that MY child should be given the opportunity that I worked my ass off for. I bust my fucking ass to provide for my wife and kid, real hard. It pisses me off to no extent that there are parents who refuse to work more hours at their job because they will lose money from the state. My wife works per diem as a nurse and tells me that half the nurses aids at her work won't take overtime because the state will dock their pay. Thats reality. Cry poor all you want but if we ship these kids back to where they came from maybe, just maybe the parents will do what the fuck they are supposed to do as parents and provide a better future for their OWN kids. All we are doing is enabling another generation.blademaster wrote:

See now your just assuming that inner city kids are going to ruin a neighbourhood. How they are going to do that I have no idea, see the kids I'd want at the good schools would be the kids who have the ability to rise above the poor situation they find around them. Who score well in tests and are smart enough to succeed in the better off schooling system.lowing wrote:

You must think that gifted students from a bad neighbourhood are likely to take drugs, gangs and violence with them to a better school and not try to better their own situation?
Is that what I am missing here?

Lowing, you're assuming every kid from an inner city area is scum who is going to cause trouble.
Typically its a small proportion who cause trouble, a good few go along with it, a lot don't care and the top 10-20% can't do the work they'd like to.
Why not let the top 10-20% go to a better school, like you want for your kids?
Or are you saying you have money, so your kids deserve a chance, kids with poor parents don't?

Fuck Israel
Privatize the School system, then people who don't want their kids in a shitty school can send them else where and Private schools can kick out the drug dealers and trouble makers forcing their parent(s) to take financial responsibility for their childs action. In oregon it is $10K + per student. Give every student a $6K voucher from the government and you will see the best schools spring up over night. $6K per 25 students (classroom) = $150,000. I think some nice schools would develop quickly, then if you want your kid in a Jew school, find one; Muslim School, find one; Tech School, find one; Atheist School, find one; Trade School, find one.............
Why the fuck is this such a horrible concept for the Government?

Cold reality eludes you as well I see, schools are funded by tax dollars fro mthe area they are in. When that area provides little income for the country there is no money for the school either. I guess now Iam supposed to pay for my kids achool district as well as everyone elses, ya know, so they don't have to.KEN-JENNINGS wrote:

It is a fact, just like it is a fact as soon as mass transit enters an area that is nice within a decade or so, the area goes to shit. Like it or not with these inner city kids WILL come trouble.TheAussieReaper wrote:
