Hi Everyone,

My Gfx card (ATI 9600 Pro 128mb AGP) is getting old and it makes loud noises. I think he will not make it very long so i want to buy a new one. My budget is around 200 Euro's. I don't mind if the card is a ATI or a Nvidia, i just want to play modern games (like BF2) smooth. My motherboard only supports AGP cards. I've searched myself for good cards but i want to hear suggestions and recommandations from you.
These are the cards that i've already found:
ATI x1600 Pro 512mb AGP
ATI x800RX 256mb AGP

These are my specs:
AMD Athlon 64 2800+
1536DDR-Ram PC-3200
ATI 9600 Pro 128mb
350W Power Supply
Maxtor 80gb 7200rpm

I hope i will get some usefull info,
Thanks in Advance

Your computer is a bit behind in terms of upgrade capacity. I can guarantee you that it's not only your video card, but your memory and CPU that's holding you back.

As it stands, I recommend leaving your system as-is. You should start saving your money for a completely new one later this year, a Socket AM2 board with PCI-e.

But to stick with the thread,

BFG GeForce 6800 GT 256MB AGP ~$250 (I'm guessing a bit on the price).

Bought this card last week BFG GeForce 6800 GS OC 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-013-BG)
from overclockers.co.uk, price was £135.07, about 195 euros.  Now playing on high everything with aa on 4 x, system is

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
2GB DDR2 RAM
BFG GeForce 6800 GS OC 256MB
500w PSU

Upgraded form an Sapphire ATI Radeon 9550 256MB (flashed to be a 9600), game is much smoother and stable than before

My reccomendation is for an AGP ATI X850 pro vivo card which can be found for <$200.00USD
( I have no idea about euros only that the chicks are hot)
  then do this mod:
http://www.overclock.net/ati/66312-uber … dding.html

This opens up the extra 4 pixel pipelines and you now have an X850 XTPE card.
I did this to mine and now have overclocked it to 570 core / 590 memory I play BF2 on all high setting with AA on 2 ( tried 4 , 6 but always come back to 2.) and get over 100 fps. it drops down to 90 durring the all out madness and I only play filled 64 maps.

This is the best value for you hard earned $.  Everyone will try to sell you on upgrading to a new mb dual slai blah blah blah but this x850 setup will last you untill the prices drop on the dual setups and they are REQUIRED to play games. As of now they are just overkill and a waste of $ (IMHO)

  GOOD LUCK SOLDIER

Try $USD250+. But to be fair, most places offer it for around $400. Still, AGP doesn't offer much in the way of worthwhile upgrade capacity. You really shouldn't try to get the latest stuff on AGP.

I'm not going to try to sell the average gamer to SLI setup, but one PCI-e card is going to be better than one AGP, and if the board is SLI, you always have the option of going that route later on.
