If you're that poorly off with your financial situation, watching TV shouldn't be a priority. Since when was the government supposed to hold everybody's hand?
Since once you have a cheap, shitty tv it's a cheap form of entertainment from then on poor people watch it.

And what? They're not supposed to, if the Government want to make a pretty pointless change that costs money then they can fork out for it.

Thoughts? While I do think it's a bit strange forcing people to go digital, the airwaves do need to be freed up and ultimately it's for the greater good. I think I first heard about the switch two years ago... people have had two fucking years to save up money to buy a converter box and yet apparently 5 million still haven't? Tough shit for them, they can stay TV-less until they get a box.
EDIT  I agree.  Why? /edit
Okay, first:  The goverment has been giving out coupons to basically get a converter box for free, and they have been advertising it like mad for the last year.  Second, if someone has an analog TV, and has been getting all their TV over the airwaves, and hasn't had the motivation or money to get a converter box by now, don't these people have more important things to be doing with their time than watchig TV?  Like working?

Uh buddy I share the same sentiments as you. Unless you were quoting me for the sake of quoting.

Ok this was inacted years ago and I remember getting a 32" TV in 2000 knowing that it wasn't digital an wouldn't decode a digital signal when the law went into effect.  This has been more publicised than crotch shots of Brittney so let's just get on with the change.  Fuck, Obama said he was for change.

And progress, don't forget progress.

I seriously hope Obama doesn't act like this with other stuff...

But if you insist on running things as a welfare state, I'd have no problem with the government continuing the coupon program for another year or so (a colossal waste of money but it'll placate those people who also think murderers and rapists should roam freely in society). But just bring the fucking transition already.
Tru dat. Hock the TV and buy some gubmint cheeze whit teh proceeds.

the big broadcasters have been warning for years about this, if you still havent managed to crawl out from under your rock and get the box (or a TV from this century), you deserve static.

We're in the process of switching, its just been a bunch of promotion so far and I'm not sure when analog will be switched off - It'll kill 5 nationwide channels and a bunch of regional stations, but most people have sky or cable (which carry a bunch of free channels) so it likely won't be missed.  I don't have a digital box yet, but then I hardly watch any TV nowdays.  If it was swtiched off tomorrow I'd be POed for about three seconds, and then either watch online or watch a DVD instead.

Ugh:

http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/22/digi … t-certain/

It's funny how the Washington Post published an article yesterday about how White House staffers found the place very stuck in the stone age regarding technology, yet they want to ONCE AGAIN delay this.

Did I mention how it costs the stations MORE to broadcast in BOTH analog and digital? I wouldn't be surprised if some stations go dark for a while because of this bullshit. Fucking "Progress" and "tech savvy administration" my ass. TV is a LUXURY not a RIGHT, MY tax dollars SHOULD NOT go toward paying for some asshole's converter box because he was too fucking stupid to save up some money OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS.

Yes, LAST TWO YEARS. My parents separated two years ago, and I remember my dad buying a small LCD TV for his bedroom at his new place with a sticker on it that said, "WARNING: ON FEB 17 2009, YOU WILL NO LONGER RECEIVE ANALOG SIGNALS" (or something like that). If you're so fucking bad with your finances that you've waited this long, you DESERVE to lose your god damn TV signal. Don't cry to me about how the people who need this extension struggle every month to pay for rent and meds etc... if you're in that shitty a situation, you should focus more on getting yourself out of that situation instead of being able to watch TV.

They shouldn't have even done this stupid coupon program in the first place.
