California is hilarious...  How long till we just give So Cal to the illegals and put a fence up along the Cali border?

Texas already grants in-state tuition for illegal aliens, but our state goverement is currently passing a law to overturn it.

Utah does the same thing.  In state tuition, even if the person is in the country illegally. And this is one of the most hard core Republican states in the US.

That pretty much limits your Uni options to whatever is in your own state unless you're super rich. Kinda gay

The law itself (AB 540) has good intentions. I think they just need to make it a bit more restrictive. If they are required by law to seek out permanent legal residency as soon as possible, and they end up becoming educated while they're at it, it sounds okay to me. It provides an incentive for people to be educated, hard-working residents. It should have a minimum GPA requirement of something like 3.5 to be eligible.

That said, it IS a bit ridiculous that a legal resident or a citizen of this country has to pay more than someone who's here illegally. That's why I hope that at least Virginia Tech accepts me, since they give you in-state tuition if the engineering major you choose is not available in your home state. AFAIK, mining engineering isn't taught in Maryland...

@Mek why does it make more sense if you're not a citizen of the US? What about people with student visas, or permanent residents (AKA myself)? I have no idea why state schools have lower tuition for in-state students, but hey. Out-of-state tuition for state schools is still generally better than private universities.

instate tuition is cheaper becaus they assume that you live there and pay state taxes in that state... and i partially agree with helping the aliens that are trying to better themselves...

All though this is silly. How many illegal Mexicans do you think complete H.S. in the US? Of the amount that do how many would rather go to college full time rather than work to help support their family. So the amount is really low but its still unacceptable.

FYI, there's 1 illegal alien for every 15 Californians...highest in the nation.  I don't bother to repost the stats as it was in another thread.

The average illegal uses a net $2,700/year in services (that's accounting for the taxes they pay).

Did I tell you the time I was in the emergency room for 4 hours waiting for a doctor, bleeding...no I guess you could care less.

The only reason I mentioned Bowles is a Democrat is because I usually favor Democrats.  In Bowles's case, I definitely don't.

I'm Hispanic and you would think I would be all for this, but I'm not because I believe in the rule of law.

I would suspect the legal Hispanic population would be pissed about this. They are the ones that waited and got in legitimately and now these illegals are essentially taking their places in the University system.

I go to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Ca. We're looking at at least a 20% cut in the education budget. We're already looking at impacted classes with fewer professors. It may seem callous, but kick the damn illegals out of the education system, its hard enough getting classes.

You would think...  but...  Some legal Hispanics are more interested in getting all their relatives into the country whatever it takes.

But yes, legal Hispanics with some foresight (like Harmor) actually think things through and realize it's not in their best interests to slowly collapse all of the things they enjoy in this country with more illegals than we've already got.

Hispanic here. Screw the illegals they shouldn't be in the country. If you do manage to make it here good for you but don't ask for a bunch of benefits even though your not a citizen.

We should protect and help our own rather then illegals who will just use their college experience to get jobs and send money back to Mexico.
