O my.... I think I'll wait for the official retail version to be released before I even think about trying this... I got ugly feeling my GTX 295 will run into funky issues with this...

I think when you're testing new OS its best to have a separate partition to install it there and have dual boot.

I also did this. Sup is right, it's certainly best to use partitions and multi-boot with different OS's to your usual

@ Heihn, it's awesome, doit doit doit

I am now officially running Win7

So far it's lookin pretty hot, the fattie taskbar'll take some getting used to, but I'm liking the Quicklaunch, instead of creating a new Application tab on teh taskbar, the quicklaunch button actually turns into the tab, it stays the same size, but hover over it and it shows a preview of all the running pages, hover over a page, and it'll temporarily bring it to the top so you can see it.

Download something in IE and see what it does.
Right click on IE and it shows your history
Right click on other apps and it shows the history of docs opened with them
Hover over things in the start menu and it does something similar to that

Quite good IMO

edit: first person to tell me how to find the EQ option in WMP12 (W7) gets a +1, i can't find the damn thing

Yeah, I noticed the history/files thing.

Now I'm waiting for the Firefox team to catch up and add Firefox history to the context menu.

Stupid beta
I had to use iexplore x86 before I could get a key and get the download manager to start.

But Windows 7 looks nice though, but I prefer Vista at this time.

When the fuck are they going to stop making 32bit OS's?! They may as well make a 16bit one as well.
I have to agree with this one as well.

I'm pretty sure that any machines that are being sold today, even for the mainstream consumer market are 64 bit compatible. Also, forcing people to upgrade their hardware seems to be cool with MS anyway.

My hardware is all 64 bit compatible, right?

Also, will I be able to access games I've installed onto XP if I install 7 onto a partition?

@ your hardware, probably, your peripherals may cause the occasional problem

Games- maybe. Some will work just by clicking the .exe, some will need a reinstall (depends on the game)

Awesome. That'll save me a lot of time.

So as I understand it, I'll have to download this, and then write it to a DVD?

Then use it to install, just like XP, right?

Yeah, and it's a betch going through the Program Files and finding all the EXE's to drag into your dock/start menu/desktop

Uhh does Daemon tools do it? Or do I need Alcohol? I also have this funky .exe because I downloaded an unrecognised format and google said that would work, it did, but I digress, it's called PowerIso?

EDIT: My speed just rocketed from 300kb/s to 700kb/s. I'll be done in 40 mins

EDIT2: How much HDD space do you need for this to go on another partition?

CDBurnerXP

Install it, launch it, "Burn ISO to Disc"

Choose your ISO, "Disc at Once"

Burn

That's how I did it and I am now in 7.

I'm withering on whether to download 32 or 64 bit. Thoughts?

Thanks

Oooh, CoH will look good in DX10. Will it run well on my computer in DX10? DX9 ran no problem with everything high and 8xAA WITH a GPU folding client running..

EDIT: @Zim, what have you got atm?

EDIT2: Donkey, I've read that I should burn it slowly, at like 2x. True? False?

64 bit, provided you have a 64 bit processor.

There might be the odd problem with peripherals not having correct drivers on 64 bit (e.g. wireless sticks), but if your peripherals are reasonably new, this shouldn't be a problem.
