I mean I'm happy for Obama and all, but fuck this:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co … =rss_metro

That's the shit me, OrangeHound, FEOS, and probably a few others get to enjoy on 'nauguration 09. Shitload of traffic, metro is probably gonna go haywire from all the morons trying to board the trains (if LOCALS don't understand 'please stand clear of the doors', i doubt out-of-towners will), and it's just gonna be overall fail.

Seriously, unless you got tickets from your congressman why bother? You probably won't be able to see the guy... just stay at home where

1) It'll be warmer than DC's shitty weather
2) You'll basically have a front row seat
3) You won't be trapped in traffic, be it pedestrian, automobile, or metro for 4 hours

Edit: It's not the bridge closings I'm pissed about, they make sense. I'm just pissed about the amount of people coming in that are causing the bridge closings in the first place (as well as other problems like metro screw-ups and delays).

The great thing is that most Federal agencies are not going to work that day because of the insanity. So me and the family will sit at the house and watch the festivities on our TV...and get a better view than most of the people schlepping around the mall.

Yeah, I've got the day off from school. You live in Virginia right? That's a bit better than living in the heart of DC where my dad is. I reckon that even to drive from his house to Ben's Chili Bowl will be a nightmare (since his house is off of 16th street).

@Mek it's only a woe when a super-popular guy gets elected. I didn't even notice any problems during 'nauguration 05

Yep, I live in Springfield. Some of my co-workers live in or very near the District. They're doing the same thing. Just holeing up in their homes and waiting it out.

Driving anywhere in DC sucks on the best day...driving during the inauguration for anything other than an emergency is insane. Just don't do it.

Also never understood why you don't take office straight after the election.

To let the other dude pack up his stuff, and set up a transition plan.

And I thought there was at least a sort of ceremonial motorcade or some shit for second term presidents. All I know is I remember people were throwing eggs at Bush's limo on the 20th of January...

the main reason why the president elect doesn't take office right away is for the electoral college, the legallity of the votes to be checked. the votes to be counted, recounted, verified. There is a whole slew of reasons. Another key component of the delay is setting up the cabinent, advisors, President appointed offices, transitional period elements. It's a fuckin mess that takes months to straighten out.

I think they actually do make inauguration day license plates in DC, but they're just for collecting. Can't use them on your car which is a shame, cause some of the more recent ones look kinda cool.

I live in Fairfax County and i will be nowhere near DC...  10,000 buses... lmao... Imagine having to use the bathroom or if you get hungry...start walking...
I will watch on TV...  I wen't to Ronald Reagans inauguration in 80... It was freezing... lot of bands and events were cancelled due to weather... We were close enough to see Ronald Reagan get sworn in...

Takes about a week (maybe 10 days) to do all of that here not 3 months. If you know theres going to be an election maybe you should have all that shit sorted first. Not to mention with your term limits the outgoing Pres knows hes got to pack up and leave half the time no matter what the result.
