Cannabis is a temporary pleasure that can be enjoyed safely. Much like a nice Whiskey, or a $90 steak. And much like both of those, once it is gone it's gone. No big deal.

Weed doesn't do anything to people. I know over 20 people that smoke it, and they have no addiction and they have never decided to "Oh I think I'll have a bag of crack today for a change please". I smoke it on and off, I had a 6 month break and it was easy. It's as big a deal as you make it.

I listen to Phil Hendrie and he had the story a long time ago, when it first came out. He does a Doctor Green thumb segment and opens with that clip every night. I laugh every time he gets to the "time is going by really really really slow". ..lol.

Well many politicians and drug enforcement people and former drug czars have called for the legalization of marijuana.  Now all it takes is a concerted effort by potheads and millions of dollars to throw at politicians and we can get it done.

Yes weed can!

Will someone have the gall to say Obama is pandering to the ghetto?

For the 2 weeks I'll be around.

@Dilbert: They were probably destined to become total losers anyway, When you are not smoking it affects you in no way. You have no urge to get another "dose" or whatever the cool name on tv for it.

Maybe, maybe not, I reckon not.
I've seen enough people functioning normally start with dope and basically end up whingeing losers. It seems to affect basic cognitive function in some way, in some people at least..
And I've compared notes with enough people with the same experience to be fairly certain I'm right on this.

Yes it can, its pretty well proven.
Just relating my experience of seeing people I know use it and wind up at the bottom of the social pile, when they did a good deal better at school than I did.
I guess if people are using they don't notice the changes in others as they are also happening to them.

I think you're totally forgetting the fact that marijuana is a drug

Every drug has side effects. Compared to most other cheap pharmaceutical drugs which are insanely dangerous, some with side effects that are even fatal. It's nearly incomprehensible that a natural plant that has been used as medicine for centuries is banned while drugs that cost up to or over $100 a pill, and can damage the kidneys, liver, heart, or even cause death, are seen as good things, even though some work less then 30% of the time.

If you compare Marijuana to other legal drugs today it would come out as a winner. It is not toxic and lethal the way the other drugs are that it is often grouped with. Scientific studies show that marijuana is not toxic to humans, and the "overdose" amount is so unrealistic as to be laughable. As in 1,500 lbs. in 15 minutes. Smoking that much pot is impossible.

How many other legal drugs can even compare?

Alcohol and nicotine. Although I would say nicotine is lethal in minute levels and extremely addictive.

The facts are:
PPL Have been smoking it for thousands of years.
The US "War on Drugs" (a warm up to the war on Communism/terror) has been going on for 80years and is a total failure.
More ppl are smoking it than before prohibition.
Drug cartels are making billions while murdering and getting up to all kinds of criminality to maintain the flow.
It has medical uses.

Id say, 90% of the ppl I know smoke it. They all have good jobs, families etc. They stick to the golden rule of smoking weed:
Make absolutely sure you have nothing meaningful to do after you have a smoke. Get all your shit done, kids to bed etc. Kick back with a reefer to relax.
Smoking weed affects your want to do shit. This is a problem for ppl who smoke all day. It should be treated like having a beer in the evening.

If obama does legalise it, it will integrate with society easy enough and kill the drug cartels and raise needed taxes.

On the down side. These drug cartels aren't simply going to retire, they will move onto something else, be it ppl or harder drugs.

I'd say a similar effect to the prohibition of alcohol in the 20s has occurred. It boosts illegal activities, diversion of funds from government to criminal's pockets, illegal smuggling and deaths as a result of lethal shit being mixed with the mary J.

Legalize it and you'll rid yourself of these problems in addition to being able to maintain control of the situation which is evident in Holland. Sure it's not the greatest substance you can take but the mixture of booze and ciggs imo has the exact same effect. Some may also argue that weed can derail the mentally unstable but look at what alcohol does.

The only argument I remotely except is the "gateway to other drugs" thing but again alcohol can have the same effect.

It simply needs to be decriminialized, not necessarily legalized.

Make possession of "small" amounts legal, so long as you are 18/21/some other arbitrary age.

Make it illegal to have a significant grow op (like, more than 1 or 2 plants).

Make it illegal to be driving with dope AND paraphenalia, with the prospect of a significant ticket.

Allow certified distribution centers to disperse it with a small tax attached per unit of weight.

It's literally mind-blowing to realize how clogged the criminal justice system (courts and prisons) is with drug offenses, and then of those, a large proportion are for weed.  If you look at the process of making weed illegal, and sensationalizing it's side-effects, from earlier in the 20th century, you can see how hard some people (I'm guessing friends of big tobacco and alcohol) tried to make this drug seem WAYYYY worse than it really is.

Sure, it's not GOOD for you.  But it does have PROVEN medicinal use, and if you eat it in some form (and don't operate heavy machinery) then you are not harming yourself or anyone around you.  The fact that it is grouped with schedule 1 drugs (by definition, no redeeming medicinal value) should also be a red flag that something fishy is going on with weed laws -- anyone who honestly thinks that it is as bad as meth and heroin has drank too much of the conservative kool-aid back in the 70s and 80s, or is probably descended from someone else who did.

Well, off to my 7:00 AM job.  I guess all that dope didn't make me too worthless to get up at 6 AM and work full time while I'm in school with a serious girlfriend and whilst working on my 2nd degree....

Legalize it.  Its effects are no worse than alcohol.  Other than ibuprofin, it's probably the most consumed drug in North America and as long as it's so popular, the government might as well regulate it and make money off of it.
