Hi people, I have just bought (cheaply i might add) a pair of 512mb Kingmax Hardcore ddr500 sticks and a pair of 512 mb OCZ Platinum Edition ddr400 Rev 2 sticks.  Can I use them all together for a total of 2gig and would i have to change the timings, and if not which would run better?
Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

These are my current specs

ASUS A8V Deluxe mobo
AMD 3500+
1GB Legend RAM
Gigabyte 6800gt
250GB WD
Windows XP SP2

Dave.

Can no one help me?

Should work fine.  You're running off 200mhz (with no OCing) or DDR400 so the DDR500 will work fine, just won't be running the full speed they are capable of.
Making your computer see both sets might be a trick though.  Plug them in and see.  I have 2 different 1 gig kits (4 512s) and I had to swap the order of the 2 pairs to make them work in my computer.  Just make sure you set your ram settings for the SLOWEST pair... or leave it all on auto.

You will not be able to run them both at the same time, at least not at their respective full speeds. You will most likely have to manually set the memory speed in your bios to the slower of the two speeds, in this case ddr400. You will also have to set the memory timings to the slower of the two speeds.

My advice? Sell all four sticks and buy yourself a pair of 1GB sticks from Corsair. Either the 3500LLPro's with 2-3-2-6 timing or the slightly slower 3200's with CAS 2-3-3-6. No proper tech is going to recommend that you mix and match RAM for any kind of optimal performance. At times, your computer may even run slower with twice as much ram in this fashion than it would with only two of the same kind of sticks. Not to mention the overhead you're going to induce on your poor dual channel system (which people seem to neglect).

I would rather run two sticks on 2-3-2-6 than four sticks on 2-2-2-5.
