"WASHINGTON (AFP) – The US Federal Aviation Administration has given the green light for the world's first commercial spaceport, New Mexico authorities said Thursday.

The FAA granted Spaceport America a license for vertical and horizontal space launches following an environmental impact study, according to the New Mexico Space Authority (NMSA)."

That would be a truly great service/convenience if that came to be... but I'm realistically skeptical. Costs are astronomically (pun intended) higher and what with everyone just loving to hike up the prices of natural resources/fuels nowadays...

Indeed it is. I remember an article where FedEx said that if they used outer-atmospheric travel for their air/spacecraft, they could get a package around the world in about 2 hours...if not less.

Space really is the final frontier. I can't wait to see what the next 50 years holds for space travel and other endeavors in space, such as further exploration (and eventual colonization) of the Moon and Mars.

I don't think we'll ever colonize Mars, but that's a topic for another day... it's all crazy theories and postulations, none of it is evidential.

Space travel and outer-atmosphere travel is all very exciting but I'm going to have to be very untypical and flag up the green-card, not because I particularly give a shit but because everyone else and their pricing/distribution do. I just hope some crazy political green agenda doesn't drive down the future possibilities and capabilities of the space program, and more plans gets approved such as this in the OP.

Too many inventions have been the result of the Space program to disband it. If we do get to colonize...the technology used to terraform certainly will do wonders for Green technology.

Isn't terraforming one of the hypothetical and undeveloped/underfunded technologies I mentioned in my first post though?

I mean really, terraforming an entire planetary body? That would be the greatest feat of human engineering/invention of all time, and I can only imagine us ever resorting to such a scheme if we're faced with the imminent extinction of our species on Earth, or something else as equally dire and catastrophic.
