With the economy the way it is and oil at $36/barrel can alternative energy plans survive?

- Oil, $36/barrel...is alternative energy still on its way?
Depends on the foresight of the average American
(no chance)

Hopefully they can. Knowing how people are morons though, we'll see SUV sales increase for a bit until gas prices rise again.
I say it's time for a few bombings of oil pipelines, frankly we need to slog through some shit (AKA high oil prices) to reach the pot of gold.

yes. Peak oil is still out there.
On its way back up, though...

Yes, oil companies fucked themselves big time and the damage is done. The only cars that sell these days are fuel efficient ones.
That's ok, they still always want more.cyborg_ninja-117 wrote:

It was nice to get 5 bucks worth of gas tonight and have the gas tank go to quarter of a tank... but like Kreskin has predicted... it will go up again...
Love is the answer
Hopefully it stays the same. I like filling up my car for $17.
... and al gore nutters are far from being up.Spark wrote:

You guys have it easy. Even though oil prices are ridiculously cheap compared to 6 months ago, we're still 85.9 pence per litre, and we consider that cheap. Fucking Government, money grabbing bastards.
Exactly, our government now plans to add an excise tax to gasoline (+21%) which will put the price to where it was, so if the gas price rises again, i'll spend my money on beer and walk..SirSchloppy wrote:

Why wouldn't it? Alternative energy has been around for far longer than the price of oil has been high. I'm sure the price will go back up at some point anyway.Harmor wrote:

Well the best time is now to manufacture as the materials will cost far less.Harmor wrote:

I want the bastards in Saudi Arabia and Russia to feel it the most, one thing I don't understand, clearly they don't control Oil Prices. So who really does? Who are the people, however many there may be, that actually control this shit? (I only ask, so that then they can be shot)
For the sake of some progress in the ME, I hope it stays down.
There is a strong correlation between low oil prices and a stable, more progressive ME - and the reverse, obviously.
Why? Because if govt's get all their money from oil, they don't give a shit about their people (they don't need to)

yup....what goes around comes around. I loved how OPEC announced a 2.2mil barrel per day production cut and the price still went down. Ha!Ajax_the_Great1 wrote:

Western governments should provide funding for alternative energy research, and link funding levels to the oil price. Oil goes up, so to does funding for electric car research, that'd keep OPEC in line for a while.
Yes but Poe, if I die before the situation gets terrible, who gives a fuck? /sarcasmCameronPoe wrote:
