hello there!

i have searched so please dont flame me, if there is a topic allready then please move me i only need constructive comments.

anyway... i have built a new pc and its rocks! /gloat

i have a problem though, when i turn on my pc sometimes there is a long drawn out tone that will last about 2 or 3 seconds then it will have a gap of about a second then will continue with another tone for about 3 seconds. its not a beep code as if just keeps doing this. it will not boot up it will just beep and beep and beep.
i have to turn off my pc and then start again, sometimes taking up to three times to get a successful boot-up.

my pc specs are as follows.

mobo = foxconn 915GL7MH-S
cpu = P4 3.06GHz
ram = 1Gb DDR2 Ram 533MHz
gfx = xfx 6800gs

if oyu need anything else then gives us a shout. but if you could give me any help then that would be great!
THA
im a fucking .....well not now

Consult your manual or your MB tech support to see what that beep code means. Otherwise, unhook everything but your processor and turn it on to see if it repeats. When plugging stuff back in, do so in order of:

1. memory
2. graphics
3. hard drive
4. other media drives
5. other PCI devices

After each step, turn your PC on to see if the beep repeats. Make sure each component is properly seated and, with the memory, make sure it's using the right slot. As much as I like to rule out bad CPU's, it's always a possibility.

Sounds to me like something isn't seated properly. Like unnamednewbie said, check your gfx card, RAM sticks and CPU are all inserted properly.

From the sound of the description its a memory issue, check seating or try with each of the simms on their own, failing that beg borrow or steal some others to test, also check all simm slots
