They should keep score to encourage friendly competition. The whole "everyone is a winner, no one is a loser" idea is complete bullshit. Just like how the whole "I am special" generation is turning out to be complete pricks and douchebags.
Again, it should be friendly competition. Definitely keep score, but make sure they're aware it's not the end of the world if they lose one stupid game.
The parents are the biggest perpetrators. They're the ones who get way too into things and wind up making a fool of themselves and embarrassing their child. Fortunately there are people who realize this; for my little brother's basketball games (when he was in elementary and middle school), there would be some really great refs who would first warn any parent who's making too much noise, yelling at their kid, or worse, yelling at the ref. After that first warning though, any more peeps and they'd get kicked out. It was pretty hilarious, and after that one person got made an example of, the rest of the parents kept their traps shut (aside from cheering and clapping of course).
