When I'm in a game, I spot for my team a lot, but what I notice is that, even in a good, 32-64 player game where squads are working together and there's some good BF action, there are only a few people who spot constantly (usually including the commander). To me, spotting's incredibly useful, especially against vehicles and snipers in a large game, and it's so easy to spot, especially when you're using ironsights, that I don't understand why ppl. can't simply hit q then LMB before trying to shoot their target. It's frustrating too in an intense game where enemy vehicles are swarming to attack one control point but you have no idea what direction they're approaching, b/c Mr. M95 1337 sniper who can see the entire battlefield from his position is too busy trying to shoot the vehicles' windshields, instead of notifying teammates who are more qualified to take down those incoming vehicles. The only possible bad thing about spotting is that it adds a lot of radio chatter (particularly when a commander spots every member of a six-man enemy squad), but it's worth it IMO. What are your thoughts?
Whenever I play sniper, I use the term scout/sniper to the fullest. A few times I have ended around with basically no kills, but no deaths either, but I constantly was calling out movement.
In the real world, a sniper's scouting and intel job is just as important as taking out a target.

I always spot for my team before I shoot my target, because there's a good chance that I'm going to be killed instead of hitting them then I would like a buddy to know where he is.
i always spot as sniper, and most of the time as other classes, i only fire as sniper unless i have an assured kill. i dont like to give my position away pointlessly
Agreed...spotting is important. I always check my minimap whenever I hear something spotted just in case it's nearby. A lot of times I'll play with sound muted and it seems to make it easier to concentrate sometimes without having to hear the constant spotting. But when I'm online with buddies, we'll use VoIP, which also cuts down the radio noise a lot. Spotting is good.
Maybe you should get points or something based on spotting and having the spottee killed withing the time their little flashing red dot lights up on the minimap.

I spot more than I shoot usually. Like unforgiven and krazed, I play more of a scout/sniper and only shoot when I think I can score a kill without giving away my position.
What sort of Distance would you be sure of a kill, I usually sit in the tower crane or on the side of a hill spotting for the team, however, sometimes when shooting far away, should i be aiming above the target(Head Usually) or dosen't it matter... Is there a difference between a head shot and a body shot in the damage meter.
Spotting is good on several occasions but not all.
Example:
Offensive Squad. About to take a Flag area. Commander spots all enemy in that area so attackers can respond.
Defensive Squad. Commander or Defending squad units spot enemy attacking the defensive point. This is good so all defenders can act to stop the threat and prepare if its a vehicle.
Spotting incoming Aircraft, good if they are helicopters. Aircraft are kind of useless as you can't react fast enough to get out of the way.
Random spotting around the map for no reason. Unless you are helpping out a localize squad in defense or attack or if you are pointing out Armor or APCs for your own helicopters and aircraft or if you are alone and you are defending a base by yourself and you see enemy incoming and you ask for assistance.
The rest seems to be noise spam on occasion. Esspecially if someone spots a target 10 times in a row real quick as if we didn't get the first 3 times.

Pilots LOVE when you spot enemy planes for them, especially if they're being chased. If you see a jet and you have the time, call it out.
The same thing applies as a "Heads Up" for armor drivers when the Fast Movers are setting them up for a bomb run. I owe a debt of gratitude for more than a few warnings of inbound aircraft, and try to repay that by doing the same.Croak wrote:

"Inbound Chopper" calls also alert your jet pilots to potential targets, especially when the heli pilot relies on low-level evasive tactics that make them difficult for the jet pilots to spot on their own.
The only time I don't make a call (and get pissed when nearby team members do it) is when enemy troops are nearby - many people forget, or don't realize, that the "Q-Calls" are audible to anyone in your vicinity. As a Spec-Ops sneaking into an enemy base, one of my priorities is to save a C4 pack for the Commander that's keeping busy making "Enemy Spotted" calls for his team.

I spot all the time, 1. In case theres a few units going to a group of team mates 2. So i can follow them, and, well kill them 3. It makes it easyer for the whole team
Spotting is always important. I do it all the time before I shoot, unless there's a very strong chance that I'll kill the guy. If I'm a sniper and in a good position, say, the crane in Sharqi, I'll constantly spot.
There seems to be a max distance for spotting, though; sometimes when I try to spot halfway across the map, even though I'm zoomed in with the sniper and can easily see the guy, it just says "Enemy forces spotted."
Spotting is very useful if I'm in a dogfight with another jet, so I can see where said jet is. Same with attack-heli fights.

I spot out everything I can. Defiently helps my team set up to kill a tank, or whatevers coming in. Spotting infantry is good if your teammates are about to get flanked.
I only spot if I dont have the time to kill it
Yeah, i love it when teammates spot a tank *C4 C4 C4 Hides*Apocalypse416 wrote:

Anybody think there should be an option to spot C4/mines/claymore? I don't think it should work at extreme distances (I can imagine paranoid players calling out "enemy forces spotted" twenty times in fear of running into an explosive), but it sucks when I see five C4 lying around a CP and I can't warn Leeroy-prone tank drivers from getting blown up.
I think there should be, something like "Heads up guys, we got C4 at this location" or "No go guys, we got AT mines"LordNader wrote:

Do you spot enemy tanks if you only hear them? Q key + RMB and choosing the enemy....that works fine for me.
Often the noise of vehicles are some kind of radar, but less people use it. Wonder why.....

Agreed, I ususally type in 'Mines at this location' or if TM are close by, just 'MINES!!!'... But because of language barriers, they often go 'BANG' . I think an 'all language' action key would help. As for 'spot', I dodan500 wrote:

As a side point, I can't help thinking, when I type in 'MINES', I wonder if they think that, 'he just wants the flag', which is not always the case.... I wonder if that's why some go 'booom'
