California has year after year spent itself into the red ink, no matter what the revenues, no matter what the shortfalls.
Now you have a situation where the republicans refuse to raise taxes and the democrats refuse to cut spending and what you have is a state with no budget. As kmarion would point out, the governator doesn't make the budget, he just signs the one on his desk, or doesn't.
Unlike Bush, the Governator was saying years ago that what the situation was was not a revenue problem, but a spending problem.
Now it is both and they say they will have to have massive tax increases ( which historically always prolongs and worsens recessions/depressions ) along with painful spending cuts.
Our state will soon arrive on capitol hill, hat in hand to ask for somewhere between 20-50 billion dollars, just like the Big Three.
nowhere will there be talk of making state jobs comparable to private sector jobs in terms of pay and perks and benefits
nowhere will there be discussion of the impact of a ' no border ' policy on our schools and hospitals.
Instead they will triple the car registration tax ( making an average cost of $900.00 per year ) and " temporarily " raise sales tax by 1.5%.
This will only forestall the inevitable and triple the amount of debt we are letting the crooks saddle our children with.
Socialism would be fine, if I got to see a dentist and put my kids through college and not freakout about medical bills if my son breaks an arm.
But this neo-socialism only socializes large bank and corporations debts.You and I will see nothing but a deflated dollar, consumed savings, depleted retirement funds and years of stagnation.
I know many small business people that need a bailout. This isa load of horseshit and the people in charge should be....nevermind.
