It's real simple. Legalise drugs and tax it.

I'm sick of seeing my tax dollars wasted on putting people in jail over drugs. If people want to become drug addicts let them. Stop taking my money and forcing me to pay for peoples incarceration/rehabilitation.

Drug war = 30 years of fail. Hundreds of thousands of lives ruined by small possesion. Thousands killed by drug gangs. Hundreds killed by cops. Pleanty of innocent people sent to jail. Fail.

Legalize pot and the softer drugs and tax those. Still, we need to keep harder drugs illegal. You can't feasibly legalize heroin or cocaine.

Why not?
Users could register, be supplied clean dope and given a fixed amount. If the state controlled it it would be much easier to wean people off as they could slowly dilute the dosage and have to shoot or snort it at the clinic.

legalization would also require harsh penalties for black market trade and border enforcement, so cheer leaders for the jack booted gestapo thugs disguised as law enforcement like you and paranoid border security loons like me would all be happy.

Well most people are sheep and lemmings. I was reading up on hemp, it's probably one of the most versatile plants around but because MJ is illegal the other half isn't there for mass production. It would be a renewable resource for paper that produces more paper per acre and crops grow in a year or two compared to trees which take years. What I don't know is just how resource intensive it is towards nutrients in the ground. Now everyone thinks that hemp and MJ are incredibly bad because of propaganda and stereotypes.

Hemp is an excellent material and relatively easy to grow on poor soil, eg Afghanistan.

Cocaine and opium used to be legal, I don't care if people use either so long as they stay off the road.

That's part of it... but honestly, I support the War on Drugs against the hard drugs. We just need to focus less on mandatory sentences and more on rehab.
