I know I spend a lot of time here complaining about one thing or another, but lately, things have actually started to look good in American politics.

Here's my reasoning...

Obama was elected president and is turning out to be a lot more moderate than many Republicans seemed to assume he would be.
Spitzer was ousted from his governorship in NY.
Larry Craig will be leaving his office in January.
Elizabeth Dole lost her Senate seat to Kay Hagan.
William Jefferson lost his House seat to newcomer Cao (who looks like he'll be an actual reformer for New Orleans).
Blagojevich has finally gotten busted for his corruption.
Gitmo looks like it will be shut down.
Israel won't be getting a "blank cheque" anymore from the U.S. government.
The Cuban embargo looks like it will end soon.
Iraq is not the mess it once was.

Despite all the doom and gloom concerning the economy, bailouts, and the Taliban, there are actually some positive developments going on.

Oh yeah, and the Panthers kicked Tampa Bay's ass last night...

Overall, it looks like this is going to be a good week.   What do you guys think?  Any hopes rising for you, at least when it comes to the government?

I was pretty surprised to be honest.  Tampa Bay was really sucking last night.  I too had thought they might win.

Now that Plaxico is gone, I think we may even catch up to the Giants' record.  I was pretty surprised by the Eagles game too.  I guess we'll find out when we play Eli & co. in a week or two.  Either way, that's gonna be one hell of a game.

I gotta say that the Titans seem the most intimidating now though.

Yeah Carolina can definitely run the ball, that game will be close. I'm not that scared of the Titans after they lost to the Jets though.

Well, after the Jets lost to San Francisco (another big surprise), I think that game vs. the Titans may have just been a fluke.

Payback I guess. The Bucs destroyed them earlier this year.

If that were the case so many republicans wouldn't have voted for him. How can people keep missing this basic fact? Obama isn't going to piss off republicans.. he's going to piss off democrats.

The economy is too big of an ugly monster to get TOO hopeful.

But the Blagojevich thing did cheer me up a bit.   Plus, by the time i'm done with college, the economy might finally be restrengthening, making a good job easier to get.

While things are looking pretty murky right now, there have been a few good shining moments lately.

Admitting that the US has been in a recession for longer than officially acknowledged is a good thing, because analysts said it would be an 18th month recession. So in theory it should end sooner.

Thank fuck for all 5 of these.

I do remain fairly optimistic. I hope Obama lives up to my expectations...and right now, it seems he will be. I know he hasn't taken office yet, but I'm very hopeful.

In general, I remain an optimist. I fixed my school problems, I'm studying as hard as I can for the ASVAB, and my military career is taking shape.

Ya mean your expectations that Obama will bring big govt. to our lives like no president has ever before, yeah if that is hopeful expectation, I think you are gunna be very very happy.

I also think ya might wanna rethink your military career if you are looking toward democrats for support, pay. I guess UN blue is a pretty color though.

If you wanna keep your paranoia train going, keep at it. Just remember, McCain voted for the bailout as well. Your republican party and fellow conservatives aren't the angels you make them out to be.

Yeah, everyone in the military should be a republican.

hmmm, nothing paranoid about Obama and his big govt. agenda. Infact he is proud of it.

It doesn't matter what party you support, it still remainsis democrats historlically do not support a strong military

You still avoided the fact that McCain supported the Wall Street bailout as well. Face it, lowing. McCain was/is no more or no less for big government than Obama is. If you wanted a smaller government, you should have voted Bob Barr. Instead, you chose to blindly support the Republican party as you always do. Don't feed me that bullshit that you want a smaller government. Your record of supporting candidates proves the exact opposite.

Expand to Meet Military Needs on the Ground: Barack Obama and Joe Biden support plans to increase the size of the Army by 65,000 soldiers and the Marines by 27,000 troops. Increasing our end strength will help units retrain and re-equip properly between deployments and decrease the strain on military families.

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/defen … y-military

Yeah, looks a LOT like not wanting a strong military.

The main thing I've seen is what he and Robert Gates both agree on. Decrease funding sharply for the F-22 and F-35, but greatly increase funding for the Air Force as a whole. While I like both of those jets vastly, it's what is necessary to take on our enemies in today's wars. It just doesn't make sense to continue the funding into those programs at the levels we have when there are so many other problems that are going on.

And considering the Air Force is the branch I'm going for, that plan of action sounds the best to me on a personal level.

So, drop the tinfoil hat and actually look at the facts.
