I'm not saying lets have $4 gas. But when it starts approaching $1.50 I can assure you that people will not prioritize the issue. This will forever leave us at the mercy of an bass akward civilization.
Given the corporate and govt systems can't hink more than a quarter ahead it would make sense to tax it back up to $4 a gallon, and use the tax for something.
Will also help encourage companies to innovate.

If you meant that to be a question, it's substantially reduced demand that has driven down prices and created the OPEC stockpile.

I was stating it actually. Oil is pretty inelastic and while I'm sure there has been a decrease in demand it can't be that much. If OPEC was to put all the available oil on the market right now (excluding time lag) prices would drop even further. Keeping it at just the right level means the price stays high enough for Saudis to make a healthy profit.
