"TOULOUSE, France (Reuters) – An Air New Zealand Airbus A320 aircraft on a test flight crashed into the sea off France's southwest coast Thursday, killing at least one person with a further six still missing, authorities said."

It sucks, but they do these tests for this very reason. There are millions of things that can go wrong during production, and industrial procedure is never perfect in implementation.

this plane didn't just come off the line. It had been flying for two years.

Yeah it had been serviced and was on a test flight after the service, obviously something went wrong during the servicing ... always a risk when you're flying something that has just come out of the factory/garage

They call them "Scarebus" for a reason. Personally I can not stand Airbus, airplanes that have tail sections rip off just because a little too much rudder was used is not something I wanna fly on or sign off maint. on.

I was riding in the jump seat earlier this year on a A319. we were taking off from westover and the MCDU started doing some weird shit. the pilot was cleared on course and as soon as he pulled the autopilot for the NAV option, the plane started turning to the right. only problem was, it should have turned left. pilots were like wtf?

I dunno, I've enjoyed most Airbus planes I've been on. JetBlue has a nice fleet.

Latest report I've heard is 5 NZers and 2 Germans dead. It sucks, but as someone else said, at least it wasn't full of passengers.

Incidently, this took place on the anniversay of another Air NZ crash - the Mt. Erebus disaster

I never trusted Airbus. Maybe because they don't make that familiar 737 sound but more like a rat getting tortured
