Celtic Fan Sentenced To 6 Months In Prison For Pitch Invasion

A teenager who invaded the pitch during Celtic's Champions League match against Manchester United earlier this month has been locked up for six months. John Murphy, 18, of Glenavon Road, Glasgow, was also given a five-year banning order from football grounds - one of the longest imposed in Scotland. Uefa fined Celtic £42,000 plus £17,000 that had been suspended following a similar incident last season. Sentencing Murphy at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Sheriff Linda Ruxton branded his behaviour "dangerous and irresponsible".

I hate idiots like this and will shed no tears for him but six months in prison? Sheesh. We have rapists who walk out of court with suspended sentences here in Ireland and this guy gets 6 months in the clinker for running onto a football pitch? He will feel a little hard done by considering that not that long ago a fan ran onto the pitch while Celtic were playing AC Milan and 'struck' Dida the goalkeeper in the face and all he got was a lifetime ban from the stadium.

What do you guys think, was justice served adequately?

so professional athletes can't subdue a drunk fool? ... and if it happens... they fear for their lives... lol...  sounds pretty lame... and the sentence of 6 months is beyond exorbitant... sounds like a bit of an overstep in the UK courts...

I'm a big believer in prison only being used when someone has been hurt... nobody died here. Sure, Celtic felt it in the pocket but they would have been better served putting this guy to work cleaning up around the stadium or carrying out some other form of community work.

Probably be brought down on appeal. And rightfully so.

It's wasn't exactly a 6 month goal gaol offense imo.

lol Freudian slip.

Pity they didn't have as tough a stance on sectarian chanting, racism and violence, which are a much bigger problem than some loony running onto the pitch. Ive been at old firm games and its a fucking war zone. Never again.
