I wasn't born a Republican. I grew up outside Cincinnati as one of 12 children. Our dad ran a bar. I became a Republican because I believe that if you work hard and believe in yourself, there is nothing you can't achieve. That's the American dream. And I look forward to leading Republicans in fighting for it. If we return to our roots, to our belief in freedom, opportunity, security and individual liberty, our party will come back stronger than ever.

I thought the roots of conservatism in America were financial conservatism and social liberalism?

Sounds like he's been reading "The Secret".

Seriously though, that bold text is a good start.

To bad the republicans became the borrow and spend, torture at will, fight undeclared wars, expand government through signing statements and borrow trillions from douche-breaths in the central bank on tax payer collateral to give soul-less, immoral  donkey fucking spunk stains that call themselves investment bankers.

All those things you quoted are nothing but bait to draw suckers in.

Our nation has been bought and sold and unless we rise up and mount the fuckers heads on poles up and down Pennsylvania Ave what you see is what you will get; what you see is the looting of our country; what you get is death and anarchy if this is left unchecked.

That's precisely what he's reacting against. He's saying Republicans need to return to their roots and stop being donkey fucking spunk stains.

Wow.  Another Republican bashing thread.  Let's do some debate and serious talk on this...

He's so full of shit because his Dad ran a bar?  Or is he full of shit because he from a large family?  Or is he full of shit because he grew up outside of Cincinnati?   Or is he full of shit for looking forward to leading the Republican party? Or is he full of shit he believes that if you work hard and believe in yourself there is nothing you can't achieve?  Or is it because he likened it to the Republican Party?

I'll choose the Bold face...   Tough for you to Monica here, but working hard and being successful is part of the Republican philosophy.  The only thing full of shit here is your post.

You must remember that working hard, being responsible and making your own money is now passe and not the in thing to do. You must borrow all that you can even if you don't qualify, you must try and leech as much as possible off of the government and when everything goes boom in your face it isn't your fault, it is the guys that were smart, invested their hard earned money and worked for that money in the first place. But you will always have the government to bail you out.

But let's change this thread to undeclared wars, bashing on conservatism, accepting socialist principals, and generally hating people that are successful on their own two feet because they don't want to give up their hard earned money to you.

Actually, my point is that Boehner's advice would lead the Republican party astray, dooming it to permanent opposition status. He's emphasizing one aspect of what Republicans believe and I think it's the wrong one in a complex, interconnected world.

Do we need to list the things you need in addition to working hard and believing in yourself? I'll start: a mother who didn't smoke crack while you were in her womb. If your mother damages your brain, there's a lot you can't achieve. And here are a couple more things you need, even if you have a healthy brain: banks that lend money, and a strong dollar (or a weak dollar if you are in an export business). It's obvious that the list is long because the modern world is complex and interconnected.

Tens of thousands of people are getting laid off from GM, Citigroup and other companies. Those people are in scary trouble--suddenly finding themselves with no job in an economy where there aren't many opportunities to get a new one or even start your own business.

What would John Boehner's Republican Party say to those people? "You are in trouble now because you didn't work hard and believe in yourself?" He's a Party leader and his ideas would destroy the Republican Party.

+1 for the truth...

and san4... what he should say is... sorry you people in the auto industry didn't adapt and make better cars... big US car companies have had the writing on the wall for a long time... you can't make -411.00 for every chrysler sold... it sucks that people are going to suffer if they lose their auto jobs... what sucks worse is the multimillion dollar salaries of the CEO's
and i'm sorry the unions priced your jobs out of existence... the best chance is bankruptcy and rebuild... no more unions...

That's a hell of a lot more sensible than what he did say.

It wasn't the people who got laid off who failed to adapt and make better cars, it was the overpaid top company executives. Even worse, smart executives and engineers in Japan are part of the reason Americans have been laid off. These are things American workers can't possibly control. Boehner's brainless plan to tell them they can achieve anything if they work hard and believe in themselves would undermine any chance that these people would support the Republican Party.
