mitsubishi and toyota would move more manufacturing to the States to fill the void and take advantage of the newly lowered price of employees and equipment.

It's much cheaper to build in the US than it is in Japan.

The Auto market will survive, but for those involved, it won't be fun

all the HARD work in these plants are done by robots.
Yeah, and the robots don't even have a union

So paying someone with some piss ant qualifications to sit around "managing" people more money than a guy that does the real work don't make sense.

Yes you, Human resources, and various other twat jobs.
yes but jord.  all the HARD work in these plants are done by robots.
Mmmm, but going off eminem's 8 mile, there are still people that do actually do physical work. Be it lifting car bonnets onto a machine all day or whatever.

Thing is anyone can do that. It takes people with skills/qualifications w/e to do the stuff up the chain.

Thing of it like a free market.

Actually a lot of the shit managers do I could do within 1 month of training. The fact that you need to spend 2 years at college, then 3 at uni to get a well paying job disgusts me. I've always made it clear what I think of qualifications anyway...

Unsustainable onion demands.
They are asking for billions just to cover the retirement benefits of workers-gone-by.

Which is all part of the shell game of dropping on us Sudden Socialism.

We need a national healthcare plan because big guns like the big three can't compete if they have to pay hire to grave benefits that the onions demand. Why shouldn't the UAO demand the same type of generous pensions that government employees have? After all, 95% of government hires are in some sort of a onion, with these 90% of wage pensions and the like.

A good idea would be to have the big three employees own the business. The government could buy the company, issue shares to the employees and have them run it to win or fail. That would get rid of the current managment who will take any bailout money they are given, pay it to themselves as bonuses and break the company anyways. When things were back in black, the employees would payback the cost of the bailout via paycheck with holdings.

One of the things that would happen if they fail is the nut and bolt distributor that sells two million nut and bolts a year to GM plants would lose their biggest account in a already foundering economy.

I am not for the bailout. But, it is ridiculous to assume that people don't care about them.

Not at all unusual. One of my best friends in high school...his parents worked for the (now closed) GM plant in Oklahoma City. His mom (with only a high school education and no technical training) made nearly $30/hr + benefits (in the 80s) for....wait for it...pulling masking paper off doors. That's it. $30/hr + benefits.

YGBSM.

Agreed, Mitsubishi are realistically, and always have been a small fish when it comes to the automobile world.

Realistically, VW & Toyota are the biggest, and that's through very very careful management, location and business strategy.

It's highly paid because that's all he does, day in, day out.

Ask him if his job is enjoyable.

And, whether he'd still do the job if he was earning, say, minimum wage.

ask someone who cleans shitters all day that question.  are you seriously saying a janitor should make more than a engineer?

I wouldnt care if it made me happy or not I would take it on impulse considering I make 7$ an hour working at firehouse subs serving food to fatasses.

In the long run it's probably cheaper for for the gov't to bail out Detroit.  Eventually Japan and Korea will own them unless the gov't can break up the UAW.  It's good to fight for a liveable wage but the UAW is just a bloated parasite.  Line workers shouldn't be making $70+ an hour in wages and benefits.  But they also should have been prepared for market changes instead of only focusing on what people want at the moment.

Idk really.

But I think it would be a good idea for our government and us as a people to start looking at the bigger picture 10 even 20 years out. The problems we are having are simply because we didn't think far enough ahead. The solutions we are implementing really only have the short term in mind.

Sigh.

I wish scorpion was the king of the USA, under his rule I'd make $25/hr serving ice cream to people

and how shitty can it possibly be:

you do something rather simple
you get paid a lot doing it
you get a lot of benefits (health care, pension etc)
you get like 3 hour-long breaks thanks to the UAW
half this shit is automated anyway
it's not like you're in a small pen in solitary confinement, chances are you're with other workers so you shoot the shit
you don't have to work hard thanks to the UAW

If anything, the burger-flipper at the local burger joint should be making more money than the bolt-tightener.
