Sorry if you refuse to see the point I was making, I will try again, this time you can replace GFx cards with any luxery item you choose.

People are not in so bad of fthat they seem to be cutting back on technology/luxery items. In other words, if we are so bad off and people can not afford food and gas, where are they getting the money for all of this other bullshit?

Unfortunately, despite the widget being developed almost entirely in the public sector using public money, the government sold the research off to some company at a tiny fraction of it's costs. The government then proceeded to grant that company a monopoly market, so when I tried to produce my superior widget, the government came round to my house and arrested me for breaking their patent protection.

It's odd that you love free markets so much seeing as the widget has, at no point, had anything to do with a free market.

The entire high tech industry, bio-tech, drugs research. Almost everything hi-tech from computers to lasers to fibre-optics to new drugs.

Patents and copyrights are by their very definition, nothing to do with free-market economics. If you are for free markets, you have to be against copyrights and patents.
