Actually I don't think anyone much gives a toss.Spark wrote:

Did you even read my post? I said regardless of who ran, that descriptor would've been used, regardless of their actual record.Dilbert_X wrote:
Thats what you get when you have a candidate too old to be his own man, and who agreed with the previous admin 90% of the time, and a VP too inexperienced to run the show by herself.
Still, it was much closer than many predicted.
I disagree. I think the international enthusiasm was because he appears to have a brain. Something US presidents, barring Clinton, have lacked over the past few decades.Spark wrote:

Would he have won, most likely not. The black vote as in the end not paticularly significant - more significant was the fact he wasn't a repub. A lot of people were saying the real presidential elections finished in August (end of dem primaries)

Really? Bush SR didn't have a brain? He might have been the most qualified president ever.Bertster7 wrote:

He is also charismatic which helps.
I think he would've won as a Republican candidate, though I think voter turnout would've been lower.
Dynastic Presidents FTL. Everything was handed to him on a plate. I see no evidence that Bush SR was particularly clever. His public speaking certainly isn't/wasn't up to much. His political achievements are not the result of his hard work or brightness, but because his dad was a senator.Kmarion wrote:

His dad was a Senator. Making it about a bazillion times easier for him to get all those government jobs. I stand by my statement that everything was handed to him on a plate - much like for his son. How is that absurd?Kmarion wrote:

10th United States Ambassador to the United Nations
Chief of the U.S. Liaison Office to the People's Republic of China
11th Director of Central Intelligence
43rd Vice President of the United States
Just all handed to him though... no brains whatsoever.
Gj Bert, you've sunk to a new level of absurdity.

For one GWB didn't have anywhere near the experience of his father. We've got lots of senators with sons Berty. No brains? .. yea that was absurd.Bertster7 wrote:

I'm not talking about experience. I'm talking about brains. Neither of the Bush's have impressed me. Whereas Clinton - the son of a car salesman who became a Rhodes scholar and then went on to become President - that really does suggest he had brains.Kmarion wrote:

All of that experience couldn't have contributed to Sr's "brains"? He knew enough to leave Iraq didn't he? His son Jeb is very intelligent as well. I wouldn't expect an objective opinion from anyone outside of the US on a topic that involved the word Bush though. That should have been obvious to me.Bertster7 wrote:

Brains are not determined by experience and so it does not contribute to them. I'm not saying Bush Sr was stupid, just that he didn't exhibit any signs of being particularly intelligent. There is nothing to suggest he was very clever.Kmarion wrote:
