I think it's a good mix and down to personal preference whether they have their URL listed or not and the option for both there is useful, I feel - asking to be PMd seems to be the favourite of late.
Yeah, it offers a little bit more privacy/protection than just blatantly leaving information out in the open for evildoers to get their hands on. And by having someone PM you, one has the option to be able to decide if they want to tell the other person or not still.
