Fro ma bridge too far, second world war, british paratroopers are trying to hold a captured bridge against impossible odds and the germans send a runner to try to get the Brits to surrender.

Random German runner : "I have come to discuss terms for surrender"
British VC winner Commander : "Im sorry, we do not have the means to facilitate your surrender at the moment"

German soldier must have looked so puzzled when the plucky bastard came out with that one!

This one applies for BF2:

"In a firefight, teamwork is essential. It gives the enemy someone else to shoot at."

Thre is a passage, which I summarized below, from a book I read called 'Breakout:  Escape from the Frozen Chosin' about the Korean War.

The troops were surrounded by chinese.  A marine officer is planning their defense.  He assigns differft duties to his soldiers, including sending a young marine to a narrow road leading to their position with an anti tank mine.

"That's the only way they can get a tank up here, son, so your job is to make sure that mine gets under that tank."

The private turns white as a ghost, but true to his duty accepts the task.  Later, the officer is going around making sure everyone is in place.  He walks forward to find the young man with the mine, and finds him there, waiting near the road in the brush with the mine, still white and shaking.

"What do you think your best way out of this is son?"  He asks.
The young man turns to him with a wide eyed incredulous look on his face.  "God, sir."

After a short conversation, the officer realizes the soldier thought he'd been sent on a suicide mission, and was planning on personally placing the mine under the tank.

The end of the officer's recount of the young soldier was simply to say "That was a good Marine."

However the most appropriate BF2 quote based on last night when I tried by myself to hold several positions as the team ran off,

This comes from an unkown LT from WW1 who had clearly had enough of his squad leader

In written memo

"The position will be held and the section will remain until relieved.  The position will be held using rifles, grenades, bayonets and other novelties.  If the section cannot remain there alive then they will remain there dead.  Nevertheless the position will be held"
You got it slightly wrong

Found in a Pillbox in 1917 after its recapture by the Allies

"Speical orders to no1 section.
1) This position will be held andthe section will remain here until relieved.
2) The enemy cannot be allowed to interfere with this programme.
3) If the section cannot remian here alive it will remain here dead but in any case shall remain here.
4) Should any man through shell-shock or such cause attempt to surrender he will remain here dea
5)Should all guns be blown out the section will use mills grenades or other such novelties
6) Finally the position as stated will be held"

Friends dad recounting his days as a Marine in Vietnam.  We would mark our positions with Red Smoke, of course the VC would hear this over their radio and thus put up red smoke.  We'd then proceed to tell the pilots VC positions marked with Red Smoke go get them.

Directions for using the Liberty pistols made during WWII (one shot deals), "Shoot enemy, take his weapon."

"The fate our soldiers met, we the survivors must never forget."

All the good ones have been taken, that's the only half decent one I know.

I've heard about that on a history show once...it's an oddly strong anecdote.

That's not a military quote. That's an idiotic quote, carried on by such fools.

I like this one

The only thing more accurate than incoming enemy fire is incoming friendly fire.

From Murphys Laws XD

I also remember one but can't find it anyway it went something like this.

The only thing that's more dangerous than the enemy is a commander with a map.
