I wouldn't vote for either, but I could see Romney getting more of the popular vote than Huckabee.

McCain has been one of the more moderate candidates the GOP has had in recent years, but his similarities to Bush (and his horrible running mate choice) killed his chances.

Perhaps, they can find someone moderate that is still distinctly different from neocons but moderate and not a religious nut.

some pundit put it well

the gop has to re shift their base where you get the libertarian wing, the evangelicals and the moderates all on the same page.  I jut might vote more for republicans if they got rid of their pro "life"  christian jihadists.

Agreed.  I agree with some of their economic views.  I just can't stand the religious fanatics, since their social agenda completely contradicts "small government."  Although, I can't say I like their war agenda either.

He's got plenty of charisma, but that whole creationism in schools thing is sure to become an issue for him.

yeah, he's pretty much finished.  Multnomah and Lane are the only major counties left, and Multnomah is insanely democratic.

It's a shame that the more moderate Republicans tend to lose their seats while the batshit crazy ones stay in office forever (like Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond did).

Granted, we booted Elizabeth Dole's ass out.  Hagan FTW!

I'd vote for Romney in 2012 if Obama turns out to be a bust. Definitely.

Not Huckabee though. As Turq said, waaaay too fanatic for my tastes.

Technically, no it doesn't.  It says that the government will not establish a religion or prevent the free exercise there of; it's easy enough to google the exact wording, but mine isn't far off.  What you have is the interpretation that if one is allowed free exercise of religion, that having no religious beliefs is your belief system and you are just as entitled to that.  Thus the often quoted separation of church and state.

A lot of people are saying Palin was responsible for McCains defeat. Not really. In fact she did exactly what she was supposed to do. It was just a poor move by the idiots running McCain's campaign. Rallying the base is not what you do when you are going after undecideds. Albeit it's an effective tactic during the primaries. I'll even admit I was all like:

.. at first. But the novelty of "an outsider" soon wore off and the reality of unpreparedness became evident. Sure she flubbed on some questions.. but they all did. She was never a candidate that could have hit the ground running (like Romney). Truth be told if she polished up her political game and got one of them thar fancy senatorial seats she might actually have a chance later on. I wouldn't count on it though.
