And in the off chance that it is invaded, my and others, many guns will be used to repel any and all foreign invaders.imortal wrote:
Actually, I kind of like living here. Seems pretty nice to me. And at least I know my country won't be invaded.
Sweden is actually ranked pretty highly in the Human Development Index -- an internationally recognized measurement of the overall quality of life in a country. They're #6.-=CB=-krazykarl wrote:
Our ass is not even near sweden, if that's where you are from. And i cry bullshit on seeming like utopias, you are a lot closer to china than I am, how Utopian is it there? How about other countries in your back yard? namely; iran, and pretty much all of africa. Utopian? I mock you.
America is number 12... and falling...

Overall, things have not boded well for us in terms of comparative living standards, but this is to be expected. For a country our size, we're doing very well, but countries as small as Sweden are much easier to organize in an optimal way.
Eventually, our size will likely bring us down in terms of standard of living (not to mention our debt).
Off my point entirely, but nice tangent.
Guess that makes you behind the curve.

Sorry if you feel like I am attacking you....but it´s really just your system....americans in general are really good people, thats why it´s really strange to me that you let your goverment and politics ruin your good reputation and what once was a great idea for creating a great nation....
oh...and point taken imortal hehe
I am almost sure Sweden won´t be either...since we have that hot "neutral" thingie going on ....oh well...hehe

All good things must come to an end... But seriously, I think it has more to do with our size than anything else. Your country is still small enough that the government isn't too far away from the average person in terms of representation.[F7F7]KiNG_KaDaFFHi wrote:

This might look familiar, it's on page 14. "Again my point; WHY DO THOSE OF YOU THAT DO NOT LIVE HERE, INSIST UPON TRYING TO INVOLVE YOURSELVES IN OUR POLITICS?"Turquoise wrote:

You are very correct Turquoise....
But USA has states and different kind of rule and local administrations in all of them.
Sweden is soo small that some of your local tvstations covers more then our nationwide ones doo....but I say with great size and recources comes great power...make your leaders use them properly.
We however still get a dose of corruption, bad ideas and decisions here aswell, but I guess we have a more active role in the system and also have a very different culture in general.
Did you know that our politicians earns only around 5-10000 dollars each month? It´s not about money or power here, it´s about serving the people....oh well...it should be.

Probably because we're big enough that everything we do affects their economy. We should expect these people to worry about our decisions.-=CB=-krazykarl wrote:

Surely, you're aware of how much our foreign policy affects global markets. Look at what the second war in Iraq did to the oil market for a while.
krazykarl..... you are not really that up to date? One might ask...why are people that not live in Iraq currently in Iraq? I know I know...you have heard it all before...but that might actually seem as a more valid question to me....or afghanistan .... or *insert any country that has an american militarybase here*?

Yeah, Sweden does have a smaller population than New York City.Turquoise wrote:

When it comes to the Senate and Presidency, we shouldn't give them salaries. I like this pay scale you speak of...[F7F7]KiNG_KaDaFFHi wrote:

Besides, most Senators and Presidents get more income from soft money than from any official salary. They don't exactly need our money.
It's always been my theory that people are best organized and governed in small communities of no more than about 20 million. Sweden has only like 9 million people. That's like the population of my state.... lolimortal wrote:

But yeah, it seems like once you hit about 30 million in population, corruption multiplies with each additional million.
You do realize africa is directly south of you right? It's that continent thingy, just below that europe place, both are on my maps, I don't know what you use there. And iran can be reached by land from switzerland, that makes it your backyard. And yes i "doo" know which way to aim before pulling the trigger.[F7F7]KiNG_KaDaFFHi wrote:

I don't feel as if you are attacking me, but i do wonder why our system is so bad in your opinion. Must be jealousy.
Beeeing elected and hunoured by your entire nation should atleast make you a bit humble, perhaps even to a point where you care for your nation and work for their best not your own interests in lobbies and contracts. But hey....that´s just me ....

I would doubt he's jealous of our crime or the fact that most of our social programs suck compared to his.-=CB=-krazykarl wrote:

The things to envy about America are.... low cost of living, low taxes, and great weather (at least on most of the West Coast).
No...not really...it´s bad because it affects most of the world , but USA, in a very bad way...and as Turquiose earlier posted we are ranked higher in many ways...why should I be jealous? I´m just worried, your decisions have a big impact at the entire world....
I guess we use different maps....from what I know it is as close to america for me as to africa....but then again we use the metric system hehe, and peru can be reached by land from USA that doens´t really make it your backyard does it?

Hell yeah....I almost live as far north as possible, ofcourse I want better weather hehe...and we do have fairly high livingcosts here, taxes are high but FAIR and I also think Sweden could use some BALLS from USA....other then that....we are fine.
Bottom line karl....I care because your politics makes my life worse.....I guess that´s hard to understand....
And true...a smaller population is not effected by corruption the same way as bigger ones...we do have to be effective to keep our quallity of living the same...I guess that might be one of the major flaws in USA ....too much money ...too much resources....who would notice it some of it "disapears"....

They pay out the ass for those social programs, and it was stated our population is larger, so more crime. math.
yes, different maps, very different. perhaps not to scale? and yes peru is in my backyard.

Larger populations do not automatically equal more crime. Japan has half of our population but far less than half of our crime.-=CB=-krazykarl wrote:

Wealth disparity usually tends to cause crime. We have far greater wealth disparity than Sweden. The poorest people of Sweden are wealthier than our poor. Granted, the wealthiest people in America are far richer than Sweden's.
Kadaffhi is right about the resources thing as well. It's easy to embezzle things when you have a much larger pool to work with. This is why things like our Social Security system don't work very well. Politicians raid its funds in small enough amounts that they don't usually get busted for it, but each raiding adds up in the long run.
I´m just taking a wildshot here....but I guess Turquoise was talking about percentages....
And I understand that you beleiive that Peru, which is located on a diffrent continent is your backyard, since some americans doesn´t seem to mind owning Iraq.....
And we do pay alot for thoose programs...but hey...they seem to work right?

I can't speak for Kadaffhi, but every time we stir things up in the Middle East, oil prices go up. That means energy costs go up for people in Sweden just like they do for us.-=CB=-krazykarl wrote:

I think what Kadaffhi is getting at is that the more interventionist we become, the more we affect the economics of other countries -- and this isn't typically a positive thing for them even if it might sometimes be that way for us.
