all trading halted in pre -markets

it's going to be a slaughter today

if they even open.

my bets are they will hit the 2200 point breaker after opening bell, then trading is halted.

NYSE says they are ready to jump into the fray.

if you are just waking up, world markets took a nose dive.

economy is following the trend of UK penises....

Aaaaaanyway
I have some spare cash, when will be the right time to buy stocks?

It would be cool if we had some economists here to give us some tips. They say that there will be an ideal point to invest pretty soon.

Of course no one rings a bell at the top or the bottom of the market. It can be wise to divide your money into equal parts and buy some shares regularly over the next few months. This will make sure that you capture some of the area around the bottom of the market, and when the market eventually goes back up ( hopefully) you will see a very good return. Its called dollar cost averaging, and although it wont give the same returns as buying at the very bottom of the market, it will do very well, and take some of the guesswork out of buying.

You should put a little more thinking into this. An equity stock called under-valued today by an analyst/expert can be an over-valued stock tomorrow  (some time in the not to distant future) based upon its' negative capital growth and a reduction in profits; or worse massive losses. The bottom price of any stock is always - zero. If you're buying - you're a bull. If you're thinking bullish I'd advise you to research the companies that have a good track record of paying dividends, and have a smaller downsize-exposure to a worldwide economy that is going to get much-worse.

My understanding is that capital expenditures industry wide; economy wide; are going to be severely reduced. Meaning even if there wasn't a real recession in progress (there is though) they (companies, CEOs, boards of directors, etc) are bracing for the hit. The result is that automatic negative growth is now a certainty. So be careful.

GDP?
Yeah. Getting closer and closer to recession. Just one more 1/4. It's predicted to last about a year.

We had three quarters of negative growth beginning in early 2000. Nothing like what this is shaping up to be though.

False.  According the the Bureau of Economic Analysis we've had four quarters of negative growth in real GDP since Bush took office.  We haven't had two successive quarters of negative growth (the definition of a recession) since 1990q4-1991q1.

Numbers are current only through 2008q2, but that quarter was positive.

I did not say successive. Still, I used poor wording. I was not intending to suggest we had the traditional definition of recession. Clinton had three. Bush had four during his term. I averaged the growth out using the same stats. Clinton was 5.6. Bush was 4.9 (will undoubtedly go down).

I did not say you did.  I was demonstrating that there was no interpretation of your words that could possibly be construed as accurate.

Still, I used poor wording.
If by "poor wording" you mean "false" then I agree.
