IN THE POLL I HAVE WRITTEN NVIDIA 296 BECAUSE I'M AN IDIOT, I MEANT 260.

Which is better out of the two of these, performance wise, not price wise. Or is there any other card I should look at (not 4870X2 or GTX 280)

9800GTX+ maybe?

The Anandtech review is only for the 1GB version, which is $50-70 more expensive than the GTX 260.

HD 4870 is as fast as the 216 core GTX260. The older GTX 260 is slower than HD 4870. Why do you compare cards with different price ranges??? Of course HD 4850 is a bit slower than the GTX... it was never ment to compete with a 100$ more expensive card. That's were HD 4870 comes to show...
And... the HD 4870 1GB is faster than 216 core GTX 260.

i own a GTX 260 896MB and i love but i must say i have always liked ATI cards more (specially their software).. the 4850 was just waaaay more expensive when i bought the GTX 260 896MB and i couldnt justify the price difference.. i dont think with either of those cards you can lose though. but go for the ati unless it's more expensive by like $100 or more

if you OC the 216 gtx your looking at 280gtx performance, so buy that. I kinda wish id spent £35 more and gone for the 216, but im only playing bf2 atm and im on 1680x1050 so i doubt the 260 will be any slouch...
