It has to be more popular being a newer game too...

On PS3 alone, there are over 3 million accounts. Not even 1 million on BF2.

I've always hated COD4 I bought it because of all the hype, played single player for a few missions and thought yea it's good, but I hate single player against bots who pretend to not know where you are, multiplayer is the ONLY way to play any game in my opinion, so I went into MP and was shocked at grenade spams, puny levels, and the speed of the whole game is just unrealistic, and when I see the choppers it just frustrates me that I can't get in 1, let alone a jet. Everything, apart from the graphics, makes me want to play BF2- COD4= sniper rifles are pointless, no vehicles (apart from the stupid choppers that the player racks up kills for but doesn't have to do anything), controls are stupid because you move around fast and arcadey, and then when you want to go prone you can't because it's blocked it's so random I haven't got time to figure out if my prone is going to be blocked or not with all the bullets flying through the walls, I think that if you want a run and gunner like COD4, then you might as well play UT3, UT3 has pretty much the same speed controls, more game modes, more gore, good weapons, better graphics, bigger and better maps, better mods, vehicles etc... And BF2 IMO is better than all because the maps are huge, vehicles to suit all tastes, good weapon set and there is a good learning curve (bullet drop, different guns and vehicles etc) that isn't in many games (and you don't rank up every second like COD), and because of the big maps, 64 player servers, vehicles, and noobs and pros, so much random stuff happens in every game that it's always funny and obviously it's not always a joke you can play the game how you like and work with your team/squad or on your own you can do what you like, that's why I like BF2 and I will probably play it until I get bored of games because I know full well that it won't be beat by any other shooter (in my opinion), even with some of the glitches and that, when you get used to it it just becomes a part of the game and for some reason I think it makes it better lol it sort of adds a "BF" style. I think the reason that COD4 is so popular is because a lot of my mates have got it and just have a quick go when they get in from work, and they're not even gamers it's just an easy game to pick up and play for a laugh, but maybe people just haven't got the patience for BF2 as it has a much longer learning curve, but if they did have the time and patience I think BF2 would be the most popular game, don't see why not, the ONLY slightly bad thing to me about BF is the graphics but they don't even look bad they look neat- I like Battlefield 2

Well said mate thats exactly my opinion. BF2 is the best shooter i have ever played and NOTHING is going to change that.

BF2 on the console is a very different game compared to the PC.

It's shit.  Almost as bad a fuel for war...  And that game was a crap in a nice looking box.

Where did I comment about BF2: Modern Warfare just out of curiosity? I was comparing the PS3 version of CoD4 against the PC version on BF2. Active (i.e. has points) accounts on CoD4 PS3 are about 3m vs about 1m for PC BF2.. -.~

Well I logically assumed you were comparing console to console instead of one verses overall.
If you want to understand why cod4 pulled a larger audience then you should look at what separates it from bf2.

Cod4 got a lot of publicity especially coming off as Game of The Year.  Bf2 did not.
Cod4 offers an incredible story mode and a multiplayer.  Bf2 or the Battlefield series for that matter was intended to only offer a multiplayer.
Cod4 has three years worth of technology, if not more ahead, than Bf2 does.  Graphics, original game design, physics engine, programed code, etc...
Cod4 was designed across the PC and consoles with very little differences.  BF2 was originally designed for only the PC and then eventually made into a different/lesser version for PS2.
Cod4 packs a lot of resemblance and fundamental gameplay aspects close to that of CSS.  Pulling in interest from the competitive and large fan base of that from counterstrike.  Bf2 does not, even with the introduced "infantry only" option.
This may explain why the competition play is also much larger than bf2 ever was for both CAL and TWL.
