This won for me back in 7th grade...the winner (i.e. - me) went on to some regional competition ("Science Olympiads" competition I think???), and the design worked there, too...I lost out because they also had a target you were supposed to aim for, and I was further than someone who used the box-in-a-box method. So either one works.

the egg should be suspended in the center of a straw pyramid by the rubber bands. so tape straws around the egg...loop rubber bands through the straws and connect them to the corners of the pyramid. if the rubber bands have the right amount of tension you should be able to drop it as many times as you like.

I did this shit in 8th grade (except we also had to put a brick in the box). I used this wavy foam stuff, lined the inside of the box with it, encased the egg in it, then suspended the foam-cube with the egg inside the box with a shitload of rubber bands. Worked a charm.
