Not sure how it is in the UK, but I imagine having some sort of lock on a shed may be useful for insurance purposes, even if it can be broken.
I make sure all my door & windows are locked before going out, even if I'm just going round the corner for a minute. I also have a claw hammer underneath my bed within arms reach in case some meth fiend breaks in during the night. Messing intruders up is generally illegal, but these days you can't afford to assume they only want to flog something and bugger off.
