[GIMP] Eliminating jagged edges

I've been doing a lot of logo type stuff lately, which of course often calls for an oval shape. The problem I am having is with the edges of the ovals being jagged, I.E.

I have tried blurring it, but this seems to cause more problems then it solves.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

How do you make the round edges? What tool do you use?

I use Select All > Rounded Rectangle > Shrink (Usually by about 2) > Ctrl+I (To invert the selection) > Del, then make a border my selecting that oval shape, growing the selection by 1 or 2 pixels, and filling with the appropriate color.

you could try upping the resolution ...
you can also use the Inkscape vector program(free open source)

I know you probably like that GIMP program, but why not use Photoshop? At leat PSD Elements? I don't think the price should be the issue... so?

@GraphicArtist J at this point I'm quite competent at GIMP, and don't really see a need to switch, though I probably will eventually.
