As far as the -quite informative - OP is concerned
Tbh CP, I thought the world was going to end when GWB first got elected. I thought, how can this MORON run the world's greatest power?
After 8 years, I don't know what to think. He fucked up as much as he could, so what? If you leave out Iraq and Afghanistan, the greatest damage will be paid by the people who voted him. So in the end who cares? Let Palin be president ffs! See how bad she can fuck up.
Because apparently 8 years of Bush weren't enough. Normally Obama - what with him being the only alternative to the Reps 'n all - should have won by a landslide. Yet here we are worrying about this cunt from hell and her buddy MacBush.

I see how you are focusing on the mayoral aspect of her career, but what do you have so far as criticism in regards to her stint as governor?
Still don't understand why you need to use this derogatory and apparently very broad ranged term to describe her. Name calling is for people who don't have a very strong argument.CameronPoe wrote:

True dat. Obama was prez of the Harvard Law Review. Not just a member, but president/editor or whatever. That alone is insanely more than Palin has done in her entire life.Poseidon wrote:

Good thread. I think the funniest thing I've heard is that she's more experienced than Obama. I understand Obama doesn't have as much experience in the senate as McCain, but saying that Palin has more experience than Obama BEYOND laughable.

Concern in the world over religiously motivated actions is at an all time high and Sarah 'Fire and Brimstone' Palin will get her hands on the launch codes that will bring Judgement Day (when Jesus returns to earth and we all ascend to heaven)?
This topic is good for a few laughs, thanks.

Since it isn't enough limiting presidential eligibility to people born within the country, maybe we should also screen candidates for where in the country they were born, as that is obviously quite relevant. I, for one, am all for restricting candidate origins to blue urban strongholds, since that culture simply represents us all.
Aside from the point, Ireland has a lot of nerve calling any place 'backwater.'
PS (Disclaimer): I am not particularly excited about either ticket.

Of course.
It simply amazes me that it's sooo cut and dry with people.. Obama will save us from DOOM. "make the right choice america!"
Where are the fears about what HE might do in office ? What's Obamas foreign policy experience again ? Oh he wants to maybe invade Pakistan? Doesn't scare anybody, not even a blink.
The fact that they won't even let her give interviews for fear that she will say something stupid only mean that she will do whatever "they" will tell her to do. Just like Bush right now.. He take no decision by himself. So i don't think that it will be more dangerous to have her as president than Bush or even McCain... Just the same old crap.
But she likes Ron Paul.. she's not that bad

5 points is still 5 points.
Expect for that lead to jump a bit more after friday.
Wait until the debates really fire up.
You'll see then and only then who is fit to lead your country.
You'll see then and only then who is fit to lead your country.
Generalization and grossly inaccurate. The election wasn't the mistake...many other decisions by the executive and legislative branches have lead to the conditions we're now in. And FYI: I believe they began before Bush's term and will exist after he's gone.Sgt.Gene wrote:

I have to go a bit ATG on it here....Partisan politics (in my opinion) is to blame. Too many party line votes...not enough common sense (for the good of the governed) votes. End parties and the electoral college and go to pure popular vote in my opinion. Like I've said before...someone always tries to explain why we need those but I'll be damned if I can see the reason.
[edit]But have to add that because Palin states that too does not mean she's my candidate. Any candidate that votes their conscience as opposed to the party line is a viable leader in my book. That includes all four of them on the tickets currently. I'm anxiously awaiting to see how the debates shake out.[/edit]

Sarah Palin is the vice president on McCain's presidential ticket. Some facts about her:
She hails from Wasilla, Alaska. The town has an offical population of 5,469.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasilla,_Alaska
In terms of the United States of America, Wasilla is an irrelevant little pimple on the arse of the country. It is overwhelmingly monoracial, as compared against the primary urban centres in the United States, and has a per capita income less than half that of the American average. From what I can gather, it is uncharacteristic of most of America and especially uncharacteristic of the parts of America that actually matter.
Charles Wohlforth, in a Frommer's travel guidebook on Alaska, described Wasilla as "the worst kind of suburban sprawl of highway-fronting shopping malls and gravel lots."
Alaska is a largely unpopulated wilderness of ice, tundra, mountains, oil and polar bears. People are given tax breaks to move there, such is the lack of appeal the place has. It's essentially a welfare state in a country that prides itself and characterises itself on being the opposite. It is devoid of innovation - what primarily happens there is this:
- People fish crabs, lobsters, etc.
- People drill oil wells and pump oil.
- People cut down trees.
It is not Massachessetts - it does not give America an MIT or a Harvard. It is not New York - it does not give America global financial clout. It is not Chicago - it does not give America classic architecture and a wealth of musical heritage. All Alaska is about is extraction of resources from the sea or the ground. Nobody really needs to think about what they're doing - drill, chop, throw nets overboard. Simple as that.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska
Sarah Palin was born and raised in Wasilla, Alaska and has spent her whole life there. She even made mayor of Wasilla. She worked here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayoralty_of_Sarah_Palin
I'm not lying - she pretty much 'worked' in a quasi-fucking log cabin in a shitty backwater of a state much of which lies in the Arctic circle.
In her youth she evidently thought that entering beauty pageants was the way forward: who needs substance when you can have image, eh? We can congratulate her on her Queen of Wasilla crown - it's quite the accolade. Despite the fact she is today a member of the loony religious right wing, when she was younger she defied conformity by eloping with her now-husband. He works for British Petroleum, by the way. He was recently subpoenaed in a probe into corruption allegations against his wife, who now happens to be the governor of Alaska. But it's ok: he refused to testify.

Now let's move on to what she will be placed in control of: the United States of America.
The US is currently the most internationally militarily belligerent nation on earth. The economy of the US represents a large chunk of the global economy and in a globalising world, things that happen in the US, have an impact outside the US. Since the loony religious right wing took control of America several years ago terrorism has increased markedly, the global economy is teetering on the brink of not just a recession but a depression (thanks largely to 'innovative' financial instruments originating in the US and woeful financial market regulation in the US, among many other things) and the plummeting value of the dollar drove oil prices to record levels (even causing food shortages in some countries). The US is not entirely to blame for all of these things, but they have played a massive and decisive part.
