After a few "kind" PMs between usmarine and myself he inspired me to make this spin off thread that kinda links to Cameronpoes Doom thread.

How much executive power do the President of the United States of America wield ?

Does it really matter who vacates in the oval office ?

What signal effect does it give the world that a skin-cancer diagnosed old man with the help from a fundamentally deranged pageant from Alaska wins the election, or that a Black inexperienced "Muslim" with "that other guy" as VP wins the election ?

What is the President of the US of A ?

see people want to believe there will be change in an election.  i have been alive for a few now and has SS or health care got any better since the 80's?  no.  its sad people actually think and believe who they pick will bring ultimate change.

So what could bring change in your opinion ?

Is the vote for your congressman a more valid option if you want change ?

local votes actually affect your life WAY more than the prez. by affect i mean you can actually do something about it.

change wont come about for a long time.
it will be the destruction of political parties that will help us the most.

when people start looking at public office as serving their country, shit will change. right now everyone is out to make a buck....get ahead in the world.
we are supposed to be electing people that are already ahead...that arent looking to get rich from fucking over the very people they were elected to help. when we do away with professional politicians, we will see change.

But doesn't that limit the change to little or no influence of the bigger issues that really matters like the defence budget and national debt to take a current topic ?

ofc.  you cant fix those.  all you got is your roads, schools and taxes among others.  you cant vote a fix to the debt or SS.

But it will eventually effect your roads, schools and taxes, with the insane numbers i find it strange it's not already noticed locally ...

The whole process is a joke.

naha, after the parites vet there candidates, and choose there guy (or woman, watever).  We dont choose the president, all the descisions are taken in the primaries.  The only choice we have is whether or not we like the black dude better than the old white guy.

People think that the President has far more power than he/she actually does. The President sets policy, but Congress controls funding.

Separation of powers is a wonderful thing...so long as one is not a rubber stamp of the other (see 90's versus 2000's).

do you think this is the reason why there is never any "real" change?

...but that's because everyone - including myself in a way - act like Parker. Or rather don't act.

And then those who do act get stigmatized by assholes (not in the mood to name people) for actually doing something. And one by one they are separated and beat down. So everything either remains the same or becomes worse.

You have to understand that even as a figurehead the President represent your whole country to the rest of the world. Your President is not well liked, than your whole country is going to feel anti-American sentiment.

Well I never said that. But that's probably because Irans elections are, lets just say, not as openly democratic as Americans enjoy.

Plus he's clearly a nut.

All heads of state represent their country, many of the US presidents have made a lasting impression on the rest of the world for both better and worse ...

Some examples of how the Eurotrash views it
  • Bush Jr. - Daddy bought him the presidency ... twice
  • Clinton - The man that brought the US back on track and introduced a new use of cigars
  • Bush Sr. - Shows that a corrupt company of powerful men can indeed peacefully take over the most powerful nation in the world
  • Reagan - An actor, and not a very good one either ... he turned out to be an okay president but the world laughed good
  • Nixon - Tricky Dick, did he do anything good at all ?
  • Lyndon B. Johnson - Responsible for killing thousands of Americas finest for nothing, for absolutely nothing ...
  • Harry S. Truman - He saved Europe and rebuild it, the right man in the right job at the right time ... brought the US to it's peek of popularity
  • Roosevelt - Maybe the best liked US president ever globally, he won WW2 ... technically Truman did but Roosevelt is the Hero

And what we think of the next election results
McCain/Palin - More of the global instability we have now and a Christian fundamentalism as bad as it's ME counterparts
Obama/Biden - Peace

As it looks right now this may infact be the most important election ever and the entire globe is watching ...

I fear for the future.

The mind numbing stupidity and lack of historical knowledge is astounding; reading this post makes me truly sad.

No i'm not kidding ... this is just a short keyword example of how foreigners view your presidency and it has nothing to do with stupidity or lack of historical knowledge, this is how you come off to the rest of world, the signal effect of the impression left behind ...

The president has a lot of power, but most of the presidents are lacking the balls to use it. Seems like the chair in the oval office is just too comfortable.

In other words, no, most of the time it doesn't matter who sits in the white house.

I can only hope that the "rest of the world" is a bit less superficial; I suspect that it is, mostly.

Same as you would ' hope ' that the Yanks are less shallow than it seems we are

I get it that you are trying to give a 'perspective' and I appreciate that but I hope you understand how whacked and out of touch it sounds

Of course it works both ways, imho we use more time criticising each other rather than trying to understand the differences because we are not so alike as you may think ...

A guy that basically gets to choose whether your country exists or not with how much free aid he wants to give to you guys.

You'd be a Jewish Zimbabwe if it wasn't for the USA, infact you wouldn't even have existed very long at all without them. Be glad that you have alot of your kind in the higher ups of the US Government to influence policy otherwise the Promised Land would've been in the hands of the un-Promised Muslims a long timea go.
