In terms of the United States of America, Wasilla is an irrelevant little pimple on the arse of the country. It is overwhelmingly monoracial, as compared against the primary urban centres in the United States, and has a per capita income less than half that of the American average. The US is currently the most internationally militarily belligerent nation on earth. The economy of the US represents a large chunk of the global economy and in a globalising world, things that happen in the US, have an impact outside the US. Since the loony religious right wing took control of America several years ago terrorism has increased markedly, the global economy is teetering on the brink of not just a recession but a depression (thanks largely to 'innovative' financial instruments originating in the US and woeful financial market regulation in the US, among many other things) and the plummeting value of the dollar drove oil prices to record levels (even causing food shortages in some countries). The US is not entirely to blame for all of these things, but they have played a massive and decisive part.
