I can't imaging Bush saying anything that could help anything on any problem.

ummm... he didnt hand out 200k home loans to people who make 30K a year. its the SEC fuck wads that need to say something, not bush. THEY need to explain why they did what they did, in their own words.Freke1 wrote:

Economic turmoil can be exacerbated by lack of consumer confidence, or panic. Sometimes a panic can cause things like stock dumps and runs on banks...Freke1 wrote:

Showing a little leadership can actually help in that sense..just apprising people of what's happening and why, what's being done about it
etc
Just a token gesture if nothing else.
Which candidate foresaw the credit crisis and tried to do something about it?
In this speech, McCain managed to predict the entire collapse that has forced the government to eat Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, along with Bear Stearns and AIG. He hammers the falsification of financial records to benefit executives, including Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson, both of whom have worked as advisers to Barack Obama this year.
SourceIn 2005 McCain wrote:
Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae’s regulator reported that the company’s quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were “illusions deliberately and systematically created” by the company’s senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.
The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae’s former chief executive officer, OFHEO’s report shows that over half of Mr. Raines’ compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.
The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator’s examination of the company’s accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform.
For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs–and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO’s report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO’s report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.
I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.
I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.

The Dems opposed it. Barney Frank in particular.September 11, 2003
The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.
Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.
The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. [And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios.
Oh man that's going to screw with some people..lol

Unfortunately...I don't think so. It will be vehemently refuted by partisans who refuse to find fault. While I find your post excellent and informative, it will be countered ultimately with other articles stating it was the Republicans refused to see this coming, etc. etc.Kmarion wrote:

I blame....the federal government. Not the executive branch alone, but the legislative also. Between them both, there is one colossal fuck up here that taxpayers will bear the burden for. Greed and power are slayers of responsibility and judgment.
maybe obama said something last night. he was at a beverly hills fundraiser. 28K per person for a steak dinner. i think that helps solve the wall street issues.Freke1 wrote:

No third party candidates to throw your support behind? This would at least show the direction you wish the candidates would go.
At least pick the lesser of 2 evils. One of them will win you know.

Ron Paul or who he endorses.
Now that Ron Paul knows absolutely for certain that he won't be America's next president, he has called the presidential selection process a "charade" — and has urged his supporters not to support either major-party candidate in November.

I believe it started that way and faded fast. In the times that the Constitution was written, things in this Country were done because they were right, not just popular. Until Washington is a Lobbyist-free zone it will continue that way.Spearhead wrote:
