No, not at all. As a Marine I can tell you it takes tremendous fuckin sack to stand there and exchange fire with a linear target knowing that you can get waxed. And after getting a little metal in the meat you stand back up like a man and continue to get some. Now, we do have a problem with officers who write their own citations. I think you should  only get a PH if you are wounded by the enemy, or by friendly fire out of your control. If your dumbass shoots your own foot you should be punched, not awarded.

I don't know a lot about it, but I'm sure it isn't just getting shot. Can't you get one for any injury in combat, say an ammo box falling onto your head?

That and 22 years in the Senate. But don't bother with those pesky facts.
And what did he run on? War Hero and "I was tortured". Facts, lol. You haven't been concerned with those for 8 years. Don't start now.

Well technically yes, however, your commanding officer has to write the recommendation for it to be considered. So, if he knows you are an asshat and that is why you are injured then it is very unlikely you will receive anything.

Don't worry GS - McCain will die early in his term and the country will be in the safe hands of the former mayor/beauty queen of Wasilla, population circa 5,000, a gun toting wife of an employee of a large oil company with a penchant for religious mumbo jumbo and an 'open mind' towards teaching creationism in school. Everything is going to be just fine. Unless Georgia joins NATO - in which case you'll be conscripted into the Russia invasion.

I just know that being shot down and captured doesn't make you a hero in my book. Carrying out your objective and making it back safely does though.

Did McCain jump on a grenade?

No, he got shot down and captured. What's heroic about that?

Doing his job, putting himself in harms way knowing that the consequences are ultimate constitute as heroic. Nevermind that, what about all the other missions he did not get shot down in? So now he is a hero, according to your logic. Of course not because you are blinded by your dislike for him.

Even though I would give Palin one. I really wouldn't want America controlled by her I honestly think there's five year old children that are more qualified. The article does raise some fair points though.

brad, you know youre my boy but I gotta disagree.  My issue with mccain and his POWness is his constant yapping about it.  "How many houses do you own?"  "I didnt own any houses for 5 1/2 years of being a POW" Its fucking disrespectful to the guys that didnt come back.

I guess that's retaliation for Braddock's post, considering he is a DST regular I would of expected him to type up his post in a more respective manner.

Well anyway I'm sure he endured horrific things in that camp that we could never imagine. However the dude typing up the article is right all the other POW's got the same treatment or probably suffered even more. He did what he was expected to do.

Isnt it also disrespectful to the guys like the one in the article who suffered the same/more than he did during the war as well?

I mean, the guy who wrote the article, by the sound of it, is a liberal democrat.  And a war hero.  So what the fuck?  Then spittles saying liberals hate people who serve with honor and distinction.  Its kinda confusing.

Medal of Honor recipient and fellow POW endorses McCain

https://i36.tinypic.com/qs2jjl.jpg

Earlier today, Veterans for John McCain held a press conference at the World War II memorial to announce the endorsement of Col. Leo Thorsness (USAF, retired).  Col. Thorsness is, I believe, Minnesota’s only living Medal of Honor recipient, having received it for tremendous heroism in an incident eleven days before he himself was shot down in Vietnam.  He spent six years in Hanoi POW camps, along with McCain.  His captors may have beaten and tortured him, but Thorsness still has a delicious sense of humor, as this clip shows:
Thorsness had quite a bit to say about McCain’s performance as a POW. In his friendly but firm way, he debunked the smears that certain people have tried spreading about his supposedly preferential treatment in Hanoi. Thorsness says that he and his colleagues can personally account for every day of McCain’s detention, and he testifies to McCain’s dedication to honor and service. He also explains what that says about the current choice in a typical Minnesota Nice fashion. The event had an impressive number of veterans in attendance, and I tried to get them all in the shot a few times. Their service came from World War II all the way to the present conflicts. The man holding the American flag in place, just to its left in the shot, is my friend Lt. Col. Joe Repya, who returned to service in his 50s to serve in Iraq in the 101st Airborne. Joe has his own new blog, Eagles Nest.
Afterwards, I got a brief moment alone with Col. Thorsness — who was very popular with the local press — and asked him to elaborate on the difference between McCain and Obama. For Thorsness, it comes down to character:
It goes both ways.

I should clarify my position on this.

I acknowledge usmarine's point that self-sacrifice in the name of fellow troops is an act of bravery and heroism (the act of saving your fellow troops, or civilians, could be seen as the objective in this case) but the acts of being either A captured or B injured do not, on their own, qualify as acts of heroism. Surviving such things may be an indication of a person being incredibly tough and durable but not necessarily heroic.

My point is that the acts of being injured or captured are, if we're being brutally honest with ourselves, acts of failure. They are what can happen if the job does not get done properly. It may be noble that a man or women has given their lives to serve a cause and meet their end in this way but it is not heroic.
