This Sept. 10 picture of Hurricane Ike was downlinked by the crew of the International Space Station, flying 220 statute miles above Earth.

That's fucking .

Reminds me of that scene from "The Day after Tomorrow" where the guys in the ISS look at the 3 storms.

Good luck Texans. It looks like it's going to be a Cat 3 making landfall right on KJ (Houston). We've been getting rain bands off and on since yesterday.

Yeah I had to call off the surf run.  Too many road closures means a black bag op to get in and extraction would be just as risky.

Maybe I'll go to San Marcos and sit in a river somewhere....

Interesting, a 20 ft surge would put 3 ft of water in my pad,  and 7 ft in my parents house.  I'm thinking about having to evac my 150 lb dog.  If it floods and people need rescue, they will not take pets.  I love my dog too much to leave her behind.  My woman and the kids left for my parents San Marcos house.  I might join them up there.  Hate to feel like a pussy like that, but....

For those who wanna see...

better to run and be alive and think your a pussy then to be dead and know you were a dumass to stay.  smart man leaves when its gona be that bad.  ive been through one and understand why they say gtfo.  i know after my experience when they say leave im long gone before it hits.
you learn the true meaning of life when you see houses and cars blow by like leaves on a windy day.

Residents in one area of the Texas coastline have been warned they must evacuate before the arrival of Hurricane Ike or "face certain death".
That's coming from the National Weather Service.

Yeah, my mom just told me about the "certain death" thing.

I'd GTFO if I lived anywhere near Ike.

Reporting in from austin-area.

Schools out early today (2 hrs cut) for storm shelter. Saturday football game cut, though the high school game is still on for tonight. Expecting lots of rain, and not running from a damn thing.

The police chief asked one stubborn couple to write their names and Social Security numbers on their forearms in black magic marker "in case something bad were to happen." They soon changed their minds, and police were wading an aluminum boat through floodwaters to rescue them.

GL irishtop.  I relocated to San Marcos.  Mild traffic, good ride.  No complaints, but after a 15 hour evac and the detruction of my last car for Rita, I don't complain about much.

Friends who've stayed behind have already lost power and are starting to feel the high winds.

Galveston is gonna get raped.  My old workplace on the isle is already under 2-3 ft of water. (Ship's mechanic blvd and 23rd).
