CARACAS, Venezuela —  President Hugo Chavez ordered the U.S. ambassador to leave Venezuela within 72 hours on Thursday, accusing the diplomat of conspiring against his government and saying he would also withdraw his own envoy from Washington immediately.

my favorite part : " Chavez has threatened to stop selling oil to the United States on a number of occasions. But the U.S. is Venezuela's No. 1 oil client, and taking such an action would debilitate his government financially. "

Exactly.

Americans have a laugh when these South American countries try to get up on their own two feet, as if they're worthless peons...

What they don't know is that the US has always shat its star-striped pants whenever a major resource-field in South America declares itself free from the 'democracy' often installed by the American government / CIA, and develops aspirations for the empowerment of its own people. Fair play to Chavez... he knows his country commands little 'real' power, but recognises the influence and resource-power they own.

Meh...wouldn't even be a blip on the scope, tbh.

War =/= full-scale invasion with occupation.

Global politics make me laugh sometimes. He stood up at the UN and declared that he could smell sulphur because Satan (Bush) has stood there the day before, while happily selling Satan oil.

No wonder he's a tad paranoid with the US backed over throw of his reign a few years back. Still, I think he is doing more for the people than his CIA installed predecessors.

LOL.  I think he knows that the US won't blow him up over rhetoric.  This is why he is not trying to invade California.

We would eventually find a way to deal with that while were at war against Hugo as well as dealing with the middle east. That is one of the reasons why Russia was careful not to give reason to the U.S. to have war.

Hes trying to increase the price of oil because:
A) Increased oil prices are the only way countries like Venezuela can hurt the west
B) He wants to make more money from oil

I'm wondering... have you ever been deployed? Are you even a solider?

You seem very eager to get troops killed.

Why would you go to war against him? As the democratically elected leader of his country - a country that poses no threat to the US - on an extreme leftist manifesto, he has every right to stop selling oil to whomsoever he chooses, however retarded his decision may or may not be.

There's been a lot of talk of US backed anti-Government activity in Latin America in recent weeks; didn't Bolivia ask the US ambassador to leave for the same reason recently too.

You're all about war aren't you? In every thread about International politics you seem to immediately jump to the option of war, no matter how ridiculous or detrimental to the US the idea might be.

He's one of Chavez's "Bolivar Revolution" compatriots. And he's hanging on to power by his fingernails. So he's doing that to draw attention away from the fact that half the provinces of Bolivia either want independence or him gone.

Evo Morales made a referendum to all the people to vote him to stay President or to leave.  Guess what, he won to stay in the presidency, so stop pulling stuff out of nowhere.
