JESUS FUCKING CHRIST YOU DON'T FUCKING GET IT DO YOU?!

This place is worse than EE now, constant fucking bickering between a small group of people has killed the section, you're all so fucking childish. Just don't post. Classic example is right above between marine and serge, marine feels he has to talk back to fucking everyone, and turns instantly agressive the moment people don't agree, and serge defends eveything he says over and over again. If you see yourselves heading down that route, stop posting, like "real men" like marine put it.

And all this shit has caused you to lose a great member from DST, nice one.

It boils down to the same thing, petty arguements, and not being able to walk away for fear of not being macho, and it's alot worse here, people take it more seriously.

yes because you argue three very volitile subjects.  religion, politics, and personal beliefs.  its gonna happen.  its gonna boil over.  you have to be able to deal with it or move on.

Whereas I don't share the 'heartbreak' of losing a D&ST regular (protip: He's not dead, he's just having a melodramatic phase) I do agree that people often turn objective rebuttals and fairly-justified disagreements into some sort of personal agenda. An E-Peen swinging match. Which is a recipe for a disaster really considering some of the many topics that we discuss here have no right and wrong, no black and white. Sometimes I think people should just accept another's viewpoint as being a valid one (like their own of course) and should just mutually agree to disagree. When threads descend into flame-baiting and name-slinging it's just not productive or conducive to good debate.

I myself have got into a few 1v1 disagreements before but I've tried to keep away from the petty ad hominem arguments and the like. "Real men" don't show off how E-Tough they are by endlessly bickering over an infinitesimally unimportant subject. "Real men" act reasonable and mature and back down when it is clear that nothing else can be said of any real intellectual or intelligent worth.

On a side note I did do all of my online dating on singlechristian.com but now I find all the sexual satisfaction I need straight from my local clergyman. God bless the Catholic church!
I agree but this is a Islam sympathy thread, so I thought I'd go after that one specifically.
No sympathy.  I'm agnostic, I don't like any Religion over the others.  I'm pointing out that there's a bias against Islam.  So fucking hard to understand?
Yeah, there is a bias.

You don't like conservatives and the ones you are most exposed to are christians. Conservatives often bash or go after Islam and the middle east.

It's a case of an enemy of my enemy is my friend.

We've all seen this happen like 6 time already. If you stop talking about how bad it is it won't be so bad.

It's a viscous circle. Like Adam at school, he was fat because he eats, and he eats because he's fat...

As you once said to me when I deplored the imbecilic nature of all the Sarah Palin threads;

"If you want to have some real high-brow intellectual debate, join a debating Forum or some shit- this is a games Forum".

Perhaps if you want to discuss financial, political and religious issues with wholly independant and life-experienced adults, you should GTFO off a gaming Forum? You know, gaming- an industry largely associated with a youth/teenage demographic and a hobby indulged in by many parentally dependant individuals because they have so much time on their hands. You're a smart guy, figure it out. If you don't want to listen to the odd under-21 year old come in here and give his/her contribution- perhaps you should take a long hard look at why a war veteran that has no time for teenager's opinions is lingering around trolling a fucking computer game forum. Life fulfillment much?

I may only be a student and I may only be experiencing the 'independant' factor for 3/4's of a year but I still like to think I'm not totally draped in a veil of naivety and narrowmindedness. And in fact I don't think a person has to be independant and self-responsible in order to point out when someone is bickering pointlessly and being a discussion-killer. If anything, a 13 year old telling you to grow-up should be more of a slap to the face than anything else. Especially when a crowd of 18+ posters agree with the kid.

Are you meaning to imply that my knowledge and 'experience' only extends to Youtube and Google or the hypothetical 13 year old? Slight bit of ambiguity there.

I really don't have an agenda Usmarine. In fact if anything the reason I am overly critical of the Western World and the US in particular is because of a straight ethical and moral truism. What's the point criticising and vocalizing concern over the doings of random third-world countries or the "classical enemies" (e.g. Russia) when I'm not a part of that system or society? There's an old joke; What if you went to a Soviet-era labour camp 50 years ago and criticized the Stalinist for his actions? He'd reply "Well what about the lynchings in the American South?" It's that sort of mentality. When I focus my reading and my research on areas, I focus them on the actions and responsibilities of the culture and society that I am a part of. It's just an ethical truism, not an agenda or a bias. I repeated this many times before that I have happily visited America many times and agree with parts of your culture and government. I would be equally critical of the UK if they were the topic of debate here on D&ST- but alas the majority of American posters aren't so focussed or attentive to that (and understandably so).

Also, much of the topics on the 'War on Terrorism' etc. are so old and overdone that it's only engaging for me if I talk about the other perspective and the 'other side of the story', so to speak. What would it really and logically add to a discussion if I contributed the same old 'Saddam was a nasty guy' stuff? That's been the official story that everyone has heard 1000 times since the entire thing began, it adds nothing new for discussion.

I can assure you that my English professors talk only about English- they're contractually obliged to keep the peripheral discussions out.

And regardless of that, I think you'll find that our University institutions share the same indoctrinations and sentiments as the American ones. Isn't it true that if it were not for our nuclear arms, we would just be another colony of the United States? Rest assured that there are no radical institutions over here that are inherently anti-American or anti-War. There are a lot of Bush criticisers but it's very much a sort of "It's cool to hate Bush" mentality, half the 'supporters' have no political knowledge. Your view of our Universities and my college profs seem to be that of a sort of M.I.T. circa 1960's. Trust me there are no popular dissenting movements over here . All very subscribed and uniform.

Academic intellectuals and professors tend to be some of the most submissive individuals anyway. After all, in order to succeed in the establishment and University institutions you have to be fairly willing to just go along with the popular idea and swallow the correct ideologies- no? Radicals don't tend to get tenure at Universities that exist off government funding!

My old school English teacher used to rip on America all the time, but it was only to a bunch of 15 year olds that didn't understand half of her jokes anyway.
