Well the thing is LBP isn't just a normal platformers , like Rachet & Clank or Crash Bandicoot.
In my opinion, it's completely different, the look is obviously platformer, but that's not it. You have a whole game editor with physics based objects. Along with the sharing, so you could imagine how many levels there will be. They could be easy/boring, but at the same time they could be pretty hard and interesting. They have some kind of filter built in the game.

(The AMAZING level editor was the only reason I still have Far Cry Instincts xbox)

LBP is a platformer. It has a level creator which makes it the first platformer to allow players to create their own content, thus making this game have all the re-playability of FPS, RTS and other genres with player made content.
Really not hard to understand.
