As we have seen in the news recently there was a supposed assassination attempt on Obama that was foiled.
I was just wondering, given the turbulent times both economically and in terms of the 'war on terror' and the almost conspiratorial mistrust of many Government institutions among many people today (particularly among left-leaning thinkers), would an event as serious as this be viewed as some sort of watershed moment for American society? Would it be viewed by many on the left as a last ditch effort by the right to somehow hold onto power? Would some people presume the powers that be secretly endorsed such a thing? Would it lead to a brand-spanking-new race war? Would the lefty Democrats rise up against the righty Conservatives?
Or would it just be another day in history like the days when John Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, Abe Lincoln, James Garfield, Will McKinney and Martin Luther King were all killed?
