I think you would get more productive answers in the Graphics section. There are some guys with really nice cameras.
I have a Digital Rebel XTi and I love it. Canon cameras are great.
I still my old digital rebel which still takes immaculate pictures. I have to agree with jamiet757 and say the Canon is great.
An SLR is kinda lost on me since I'm not a photographer.

SLR has a steep learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, you can far outperform anything that you could do with a point-and-shoot.
Brother has the D50 and I must admit it is pretty impressive!

I really want a nice shiny DSLR. I want to get into photography.

All Cannon EOS are incredibly good cameras. If you have the cash, there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't purchase it.
