Compared to the prices in Europe $400 sounds like a good deal ...

I would say it is.  Although, this version of the Ps3 does not have BC.

Most people told me to go with the 40GB and just buy a larger HD. (This doesn't void the warranty)

Here's the thread I made a while ago if you want to look at some of the comments people made.

I've had my PS3 for about 4 weeks and it is pure awesomness.

Get one now, you won't regret it.

Not yet. They're lowering the price on the PS3. Ask Kerry, I told him to wait until after E3 in case they lower the price - and they are. The 80 gig is coming down to 400.

The $400 80 gb PS3 isn't even into most stores, if any at all.

And I'm talking about the NEW 80 gig. Not the old one that was plagued with problems. The one that came with the MGS4 bundle.

Get it. Make sure you buy a blue ray disc and an hdmi wire when you do. If you never play it then use it for ur home theater.

Definitely. HDMI's so worth it. The quality is crystal clear.

Really, it seemed the only arguments against people weren't buying PS3s were that they were expensive, had a poor game selection, and had a Blu-ray drive whose future was uncertain. All of these arguments are baseless, now.

I've got an 80GB one that came w/ MotorStorm, haven't had a single issue, and have played it in pretty high temps too--no overheats or anything.  80GB is backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2 titles (most work), so no worries there.

I'm not sure what problems you're referencing to.  I got the 80GB MGS4 Bundle on June 12th (day of launch) and haven't had a single issue with it.  Nor have I read online about any re-occurring issues people have had with it other than some PS2 backward compatibility problems, which aren't substantial.  It works with all the PS2 games in my library except for Gran Turismo 4 (skips on the menus a little).  It's an awesome value and MGS4 alone made it worth buying.  It even comes with the Dual Shock 3 which the 40GBs don't as of right now.  You better make a decision quick before all the backward compatible PS3s are gone and you're stuck with a stripped down 40/80GB.
