What about that little Chinese girl who sang in the opening ceremony? Anyone else think that her mouth and the words were just a bit out of sync?
Turns out you'd be right there too, the girl was lip-syncing. The girl who was doing the actual singing was deemed "not cute enough" because of slightly crooked teeth so she sang from backstage.
Nobody wants to see some ugly bitch singing, and that is the truth.

According to the pic in the OP, new years in Reykjavik is way bigger than that.

Holy fuck, that's gotta suck. Hard.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

What's the problem?

No pollution from an image but there are for real fireworks ... we couldn't tell the difference meaning it has come to the point now where the mind can't distinguish reality from virtual reality and that is an incredible time to be living in.

Baroid Bonds is a great baseball player, amirite?
Floyd Landis is a great bicyclist, amirite?
Shawne Merriman is a great football player, amirite?
Floyd Landis, meh, just like the rest of the dopers, win some, lose some.
Shawn Merriman, was only good when he juiced.  It's also easy to be considered a good linebacker for a couple years.  Do it for a career and I'll be impressed.

Barry Bonds, best player of our decade before and after the juice.  Steroids just made him hit the ball farther.  He still has the best eye of anyone in our era.  Everyone in baseball juiced and he just sat there and said, "Fuck it, I can do it better than them."  Barry is one of the greatest players ever, no matter what you say...  Sports are entertainment, and we all got what we asked for.

On topic, who cares about the fireworks.  People are so ready to find any mistake China makes.
i think you missed my point.  i don't want to debate specific sports players.
my point is that networks (in this case countries), will do anything for ratings -> viewers -> money.

i think it's BS -- as i've already said, sports are becoming a science fair where the players with the best technologies win.  it is becoming a competition of sophistication rather than a competition of atheticism.

I hope you don't mind me assuming these "mistakes" encompass some other things that have been in the media about China, like the cuter lip-syncing 8 year olds.

The firework issue doesn't seem that bad, it's a bit dishonest but the beauty industry has done the airbrushing shite for years and it's not really cruel or malicious. Now, on to the other things. They are not mistakes, they are offensive, wrong and generally fucked up 'bad decisions.'

Having a girl sit backstage and sing while someone more attractive takes the glory is just wrong. If a little girl comes out on stage to sing, it's her singing that is going to 'represent the country.' You know, maybe she had massive stage fright and singing for the world would be too much. That would be forgivable, but if it was in fact a case of cuteness, that's just disgusting.

Speaking of which, the complex opening ceremony went off so well because if anyone made a misstep they would have been shot.

How about the sale of dogs being banned because it might offend western visitors? Now the government is going so far as trying to manipulate the country's food and therefor culture. A country should not be changed to tailor to it's visitors over who actually lives there. The tourists should be very ready for a different culture, that's a huge part of the point of travel. If they're not ready for it, it's the tourists fault anyways.

And finally, propaganda posted in cities about how to treat western visitors. Now how could this be justified. They essential say "do not engage in any small talk with foreigners." They make no suggestion about what to talk about, just to smile lightly and don't ask about income. I know the country has been historically shut in but for the Chinese people who have learned English well enough to dare try and chat with a stranger, if some reason for it arose, they are certainly not more etiquette-handicapped then anywhere else in the world.

Was that sarcasm? If not, you just lost all credibility with that statement mate. Try to have gain some real life experience in the area before embarking on a judgemental crusade like that next time.
