Supposedly all the sniper rifles do 70 damage. If so, then using stopping power, whcich increases damage by 140%, should make them all do 98 damage. However, I've noticed that the R700 and .50 Cal seem to be 1-shot kill (softcore) with stopping power (which would suggest 100+ damage), but the Dragunov isn't. I haven't tried the other snipers. Can anyone explain this?
Humm, as far as i know bolt action are mostly always a little stronger in most game, i could be wrong tho. Imagine the ownage a 1shot kill m21 could do.
the multipliers make the damage exceed 100.
The R700 and 50 CAL are a bit more powerful, and will always kill in one shot (except for the feet). Frustratingly, with the M40 you can often tag a player and he won't die. All in all, the M40 is still the much better sniper (except with AWP fix) as the R700 hits off center. Of course, you can always take the M40 with an ACOG, in which case it is as powerful as the R700.
It's the damage multipliers. See this thread: http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=96436
Actually, the M40 and the M82 are the only snipers with the extra hit modifiers. They are the only ones that will kill in 1 shot 100% of the time, unless you shoot them in the limbs.
EDIT: Nevermind, I guess the R700 shares the same hit modifiers as the M40 and M82.

It all matters on where you hit on the body.
Head multiplies the damage by 1.5, shoulders 1.3, body 1.1 and so on. There's a table somewhere, someone will have the link.
So basically, R700 + Stopping power = 98
98 x 1.5 (Headshot) = 147, which is enough (I think) to kill a juggernaut.
M40 + ACOG + Stopping Power (As of 1.5, not played in a while) would give a damage of 101, which is enough to kill when you hit anywhere.
Pretty sure of most of those numbers, correct me if I'm wrong.

Juggernaut and stopping power cancel each other out.
I have to ask. Following the numbers given, the R700 does 107.8 damage hitting the stomach with stopping power. Enough to kill someone without juggernaut. But when I hit people at least in the stomach (most of the time it´s the chest I hit) they don´t die, even without juggernaut. Does this have something to do with me using the acog on it?
I was absent in cod for 4 months, so was there any change to the weapons maybe?

the r700 is more bang for the buck in terms of accuracy and SP even though the 50cal is more powerful
No, you must just be getting unlucky with ping, etc.Sisco10 wrote:

Figured. Thanx guys. Got these internetz a week ago, maybe it still got teething problems. Will see.Sir Schmoopy wrote:

karma for the both of you!
and the 50 cal is way to Damn loud too. almost every noob can pretty much figure where you are.
The silenced M14 and a UAV jammer trumps all sniper rifles.
lol if you let someone get close to you while youve got a 1hit kill rifle - urdoinitwrongspecialistx2324 wrote:

The .50cal is slighty more powerfull.
Not really. In this game, it's a matter of application. Statwise, the damage and penetration value between the two rifles are unimportant, unless you're playing on a high HP server. The only time a silenced M14 will ever give you away is if someone sees you, which means you have more leeway to take out a large group of people before moving on. If there were maps that had the range of, say, Delta Force 2, I'd value the 50 more...but in the case of CoD4, the M14 is still a (mostly) one hit kill from pretty much anywhere on the map, and the silencer addon doesn't disrupt accuracy significantly. Exceptions to the one-hit common such as shooting at people who are behind certain walls can be easily overcome by a second shot with the M14's quick recovery from recoil.
The one thing I wish I could add to an M14 kit would be a ghillie suit. Certain...bushes would become much more concealing.
If I wanted to get geeky, I could say that Bane isn't better than Batman just because he's stronger.
