Do you do economics or something?Uzique wrote:
I'm not even going to construct an intelligent response to someone who thinks that an obstruction to self-sufficiently is "dem illegal immigrants taking our jobs". You compare America to Japan/China 50 years ago when they were just industrialising... America isn't just industrialising, it's deeply specialised in hi-tech industry and services. Ergo: your economy won't respond to change in the same way as theirs will.
Oh and Usmarine I'm not inherently anti-US, I actually really like your country. I'm just saying that this suggestion to boycott all Chinese products and then push forward without China's involvement in economics/trade is fundamentally flawed by several large issues. I don't really see how in my analysis of Keynesian economics or the US's access to resources I came across as being anti-American. But alas this post is almost running over 2 paragraphs long now so I shall give those with reading difficulty a break and stop before the sheer volume of text gives them a headache.
Not for my degree no but I am hoping to go into graduate employment in the business/economics sector.
Why?

Shit man I'm looking to go into second year economics you probably know more than me yikes!
They're long, but not pointless. And he writes quite well.jord wrote:

Sorry, logic would have suggested that someone who frequents a Forum (i.e. where the mode of communication is written) would be willing and capable of reading. Some arguments and messages cannot be communicated in a single sentence, I guess that's a sad reality for him to face.

I'll ignore it, not because of the fact that china sucks, but just because i "dislike" Olympics in general.
A lot of it probably isn't relevant to your course though . It's all theoretical, I'm sure you're far better at actual economics.wah1188 wrote:

I'm an English Literature student so just generally doing a load of wide-reading and research gives a clue on a whole bunch of other subjects and topic areas. Economics being one of them I guess- plus I was looking at doing an Economics or Politics, Philosophy and Economics course before I made the decision to go into Literature.
Thanks for the compliment on my writing- but I do acknowledge not everyone wants a novel presented to them when discussing a topic.

Funny thing: the Olympics is the one time when a group of people from different nations come together and just compete. Just comptition, that's all. Although it wold be naive to suggest that politics don't play a role, they aren't important in the spirit of the Olympics.
Stop being caught up in the mass-media bullshit and just enjoy the Olympics for what it is because in honest truth it is the only time every four years where I begin to see some little bit of fucking hope for this fucked up little group known as humanity.
To all you "Free Tibet" band-wagon-jumpers; just let it go for two fucking weeks. I guaruntee that after the Olympics is over and the world media takes it's eyes off China suddenly the idea of a free Tibet will seem unimportant to you. I guarun-fucking-tee it.
by your theory you need to explain to me why mugabe was not allowed in china to watch his team.
And that my friends, is why usmarine survives in D&ST.usmarine wrote:

Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

I'm probably not quite understanding your point marine but I'l respond anyway.
What about Mugabe not being allowed to watch his team comes into "group of people from different natons coming together just to compete"? Mugabe isn't competing, he doesn't even like competing in elections.
I guess what you're saying that Mugabe being disallowed into China makes my "spirit of the Olympics" idea redundant. It doesn't. Mugabe isn't allowed into China because he's a fuckhead who's destroying his nation. If the Zimbabwean team was not allowed to compete because their head of state is a fuckhead, then you'd have a point but as I see it my idea of what the Olympics represents is still correct.
