I need some opinions on my new computer.

Its an alienware because i dont feel like building my own and i want a good warrenty/ reliable company

Processor: amd 3500+ w/ Ht
Power Supply: 650w atx
Cooling : alienice 2.0 video cooling w/ acoustic dampening
Mobo: Alienware nforce4 sli chipset mobo pci express
RAM: 1GB low-latency dual channel DDR pc-3200 at 400 mhz(2x512)
Hardrive: 80gb serial ata 1.5gb/s 7,200 rpm highperformance
Video card: 1xGeforce 7800 Gt (when i get more money ill get another)

Some options i think i might change are

cooling: alienware liquid cooling w/ alienice 2.0
video card: 1xgeforce 7800 gtx (get 2 when i get more money)

Questions
Is there a major difference between the Gt and the Gtx
Is the a major difference between Air and Liquid cooling?
Is there anything wrong with the rest of my set up?

right now the price is at: 1,590
with upgraded cooling : 1,705
with upgraded video card :1,758
with upgraded cooling and video card : 1,873

I heard it was a lil overkill to get 2 gigs...does it really make a big difference in game play?

dont go with alienware. Their service is horible and their prices are too steep...

I would personally build my own computer, because its cheaper and you get the parts you want, but thats just me....

My Suggestions would be to go with A 7800GT GFX card, atleast 1GB of RAM(better w/ 2GB), a dual-core processor(AMD 3800 x2), and a bigger HDD than 80GB...Also, I think your 650W PSU is overkill for that kind of a system....

yes. It makes a big difference in gameplay and system use. Also more smoother gameplay...

no, its an overkill to get 3 gigs, 2 gigs is good for BF2.....i dont know if there is another game out there that also uses 2 tho.... only get 2 if you intend to play BF2(which u will)

I sell PC's and id say that it is a lot better to make your own..
Myself id go for:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ SKT 939
Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI MotherBoard
2GB low-latency dual channel DDR pc-3200 at 400 mhz ( 2x1GB )
2x512 nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX PCI-E DDR3 ( SLi )

Bit of OverKill but a Great System

Very overkill but indeed a great system, and as soon as the 7900 gtx comes out in march it will be outdated...lol...never ends.

Would there be a difference between 2x 1gb ram and 4 x 512 ram?

i would suggest u to get 2 X 1Gb coz u might want to upgrade later... just for future proofing

I agree, don't get an alienware. I was going to buy one 3 months ago, until I saw how expensive it would've been. I bought my components off tigerdirect.com and I paid so much less. I also have components equal or better to what my alienware would've had.

i would only buy alienware if i had excess money, then i would buy the cheapest configuration and then rip out the parts and keep the case. Thats the only cool thing i like about Alienware

get 2 1mb stick its more space sufficient but it all depends on ur motherboard, so check that out before u go with the 2 1mb RAM sticks. Also who is the chick with the hot piece of a** on ur sig?

Most of what you ppl are posting are all good rigs, but might I recommend:

Take the 2 gigs of memory - very fast load times with very little "chop" - NOT LAG thats something different

Dont take a Dual Core processor. Dual Core processors are for running more than 1 program or application @ a time. BF2 (like most games) is a single application program - unless you want to run more than 1 game at a time.

At the present time take a single video card - 1x6800 or 1x7800. I have heard that the performance increase between 1 and 2 video cards is like 5% tops.

I would also increase the HDD. Maybe a 160 or 200GB SATA (if your mobo can support it.)
I am also buying this PC in the next month or 2 (currently so broke i cant afford to pay attention).

For $1500 CAD, which is roughly $1300USD. Again, that was 6 months ago, prices for those same parts have gone down but are all better than the ones you have listed with Alienware.

Dual core is more future proof though, a X2 3800+ is equal to two 3200+, dual core is much much better

Still think that having a Dual Core processor a waste of money for those of you/us that are currently running 1 program at a time.
Just out of curiosity 34766 what will your new system be used for?? Gaming or running 2 programs simultaneously?
