Also the call for US intervention worrys me(least it seems the Georgians are calling for intervention). Not to mention that the Russians are playing this off as a Georgian attack. The US will probably offer mediation and talks. I can't see them going to war with Russia over this. Some guy in the Pentagon will have run this scenario and whilst the Georgians say it's in the US's interest to help, I don't think it is. It might improve the international image because they'd be sticking up for essentially the little bullied kid against a proper military. That's not worth WW3.

I admit it is possible we are being played by the Georgians, though they are taking a gamble with their entire country, so I dont find it likely.

on a side note, i really am interested in the weapons that are being deployed on both sides... has anyone seen technical references to the tanks or aircraft being used? i just want an idea of how badly the georgian army is going to get kicked.
